Leto was a male Kwejian-Human hybrid who served as a Captain in Starfleet during the 33rd century. He was the son of Cleveland Booker and Michael Burnham and named for Booker's deceased nephew whose death had deeply affected Cleveland. (DIS: "Life, Itself")
After being promoted to captain, he was set to command his own starship and was worried about his first speech to his crew. Leto volunteered to transport his mother from their family home on Sanctuary Four to Federation Headquarters where she was going to take the USS Discovery on its last mission. Along the way, Burnham offered her son some advice based upon her own experiences. (DIS: "Life, Itself")
