John Verl Ottman (born 6 July 1964; age 60) is an award-winning composer, film editor, and occasional director who directed the Star Trek: Discovery fourth season episode "All Is Possible".

Born in San Diego, California, Ottman graduated from the USC School of Cinema-Television in 1988. He had been a longtime collaborator of director Bryan Singer, composing music for and editing several of Singer's films, including The Usual Suspects (1995, with Jack Shearer), Superman Returns (2006, with Frank Langella), Valkyre (2008), X2 (2003, starring Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn and Bruce Davison), X-Men: Days of the Future Past (2014, starring Patrick Stewart and Famke Janssen) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016, starring Patrick Stewart and Famke Janssen).

His other work as composer include films such as The Cable Guy (1996, with Andy Dick), Eight Legged Freaks (2002, with Leon Rippy), Gothika (2003), Cellular (2004, with Lenore Kasdorf), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005, with Corbin Bernsen and Martha Hackett), Fantastic Four (2005, with Stan Lee), Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2006, with Doug Jones, Brian Posehn, and Stan Lee), and Orphan (2009, with Jimmy Bennett).

He made his directorial debut with Urban Legends: Final Cut (2000, starring Jennifer Morrison and Anson Mount.
