John E. Oliver is a composer and music production set supervisor who worked as music coordinator on the Star Trek: The Next Generation fourth season episode "In Theory". He worked with musical technical advisor Jay Leslie and sideline musicians/actors Ritt Henn and Phil Mallory. In 1996 he was the music producer for the song "Moonlight Becomes You", written by Johnny Burke and James Van Heusen and performed by Julie Morgan, in Star Trek: First Contact.

Oliver worked as music consultant and music production set supervisor on Those Lips, Those Eyes (1980), on the comedy series Square Pegs (1982-1983), La Bamba (1987), The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), Cast a Deadly Spell (1991, with David Warner and Clancy Brown), For the Boys (1991, with musician Jack Sheldon), Indecent Proposal (1993), Blue Chips (1994), Sabrina (1995, with musician James Thatcher), and The Relic (1997, music by John Debney).

As composer he contributed to He Said, She Said (1991), The Butcher's Wife (1991), School Ties (1992), Vampire in Brooklyn (1995), and Sabrina (1995).
