Hovercruiser

A police hovercruiser in the 2240s of the alternate reality

A hovercruiser was a one-person vehicle which traveled above the ground. The vehicle was styled after standard motorcycles (which were still used in the 23rd century), and was ridden in much the same style. Instead of wheels, the hovercruiser used a technology to propel the vehicle without touching the ground.

Hovercruisers were used by police officers on Earth during the 23rd century to aid in law enforcement.

In the 2240s, a police officer in Iowa used Hovercruiser 924 to chase a young James T. Kirk who had stolen his stepfather's Corvette. (Star Trek)

The hovercruiser was designed by John Eaves, and was built as a prop rather than digitally. [1]

The 2013 virtual collectible card battle game Star Trek: Rivals has card #37, titled Iowan Police Hoverbike.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 349 stated this type of vehicle was employed by the Iowa State Police and dated the incident in the movie to 2244.
