House of T'Kuvma

The House of T'Kuvma (tIquvma tuq in Klingonese), or House T'Kuvma, was a 23rd century Klingon house. As of 2256, the house had not earned a place on the Klingon High Council.

After the death of his father, T'Kuvma vowed to restore the honor of his house. Eventually, he devised a way to unite the squabbling Great Houses and the fractured Klingon Empire against the Federation, which he believed threatened to destroy Klingon identity.

L'Rell's mother was born to the House of Mo'Kai while her father was a kinsman of T'Kuvma. She considered herself to be part of both houses. (DIS: "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry")

T'Kuvma considered his house open to all, including outcasts like the albino Voq. It was bounded by a single doctrine: "Remain Klingon". Crucial was that they had faith in the messianic destiny of T'Kuvma, who likened himself to Kahless reborn. (DIS: "The Vulcan Hello", "Battle at the Binary Stars")

After the Battle of the Binary Stars, T'Kuvma's ship was stranded for months with no functioning drive and lack of food. Eventually, most of T'Kuvma's crew submitted to Kol of the House of Kor, while Voq was left on the wreck of the USS Shenzhou. (DIS: " The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry") Once Kol had control of the ship, he had many of the ship's original crew put to death. (DIS: "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum") During the Battle at Pahvo, Kol hoped to extinguish T'Kuvma's remaining supporters by killing his assassin, Michael Burnham. However, Kol was killed when the Sarcophagus was destroyed by the USS Discovery. (DIS: "Into the Forest I Go")

Background information[]

The portrait of the Klingons in Star Trek: Discovery was partially influenced by John M. Ford's novel The Final Reflection. T'Kuvma's House draws a parallel to the House 24, an orphanage in which the novel's main character, Krenn, was raised. Both provided home for Klingons without a proper lineage. ^{(citation needed • edit)}
