The gazelle was a quadrupedal animal native to Earth. They usually inhabited the savannas of Africa, and were herbivores.
When a gazelle was born, it was capable of standing on its own within minutes, and within a few more minutes, was capable of walking on its own.
While trying to explain that Humans may stumble on their first attempt at space exploration, Captain Jonathan Archer gave a "colorful analogy" to Ambassador Soval comparing that Humans were not like gazelles, and did not always get something right immediately.
