Douglas Alan Shanklin (12 July 195113 March 2020; age 68) was the actor who appeared as "Prison Guard #2" in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. His stunts were performed by Jeffrey S. Jensen.

Biography[]

Shanklin was born in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated in 1969 from Penn High School in nearby Mishawaka, Indiana. Following high school, he earned a bachelor's degree in speech, dramatic arts and physical education in 1973 from Charleston (S.C.) Baptist College. Following his graduation, he joined the US Marine Corps from 1973 to 1976, and was on the International All Marine Basketball Team during that time. Shortly after leaving the Marines, he became a professional actor before retiring in 1993. (The Star Press [Muncie, Indiana], 31 May 1997, p. 7)

His most prominent role was on Dynasty (1983, with Joan Collins), but also appeared on the series Matt Houston (1983, with Jeff Imada, Henry Kingi, Sr., and Mickey Morton), Three's Company (1984), Otherworld (1985, with Jonathan Banks, Larry Cedar, Alex Daniels, and Carolyn Seymour), J.J. Starbuck (1987, with David Huddleston, Jay Underwood, Katherine Moffat, Eric Server, David Selburg, and Carolyne Barry), Fantasy Island (with Ricardo Montalban), and Who's The Boss?.

His feature film credits include Force of Darkness (1985), the science fiction television film J.O.E. and the Colonel (1985, with William Lucking, Allan Miller, Branscombe Richmond, and Gary Kasper), Hunk (1987, with Hilary Shepard Turner), and Dark Rider (1991).

After retiring from acting, and by 1997, he was an account executive for IKON Office Solutions of South California. (The Star Press [Muncie, Indiana], 31 May 1997, p. 7)

By 2002 he resided in Mentone, Alabama where he worked as a car dealership finance manager before retiring.
