Dialogue was written or spoken conversation between two or more people, as well as their depictions in a literary or theatrical forms such as spoken words written in a book or play. The word could refer to opening lines of communication between two adversaries.

In an alternate 2266, Captain Christopher Pike planned to neutralize, not destroy, a Romulan Bird-of-Prey to leave open the possibility of dialogue. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")

In 2365, upon hearing the bellboy from Hotel Royale express his admiration for rich people, Deanna Troi found the dialogue unbelievable and wondered if 20th century Humans really spoke that way. Jean-Luc Picard assured her it was not true to life. (TNG: "The Royale")

In 2369, Beverly Crusher recognized Data's poem Ode to Spot as being the wrong dialogue that William T. Riker was reading. (TNG: "A Fistful of Datas")
