A defibrillator was a device for treating heart-related medical emergencies.
In 2259 of the alternate reality, a defibrillator was included in an alcove containing emergency resources in a corridor just outside the Daystrom Conference Room at Starfleet Headquarters. The defibrillator, along with the structure it was placed in, ended up smashing into jumpship 208. (Star Trek Into Darkness)
