A sign behind a man that says "No Credit Cards"

A credit card was a mode of payment on Earth in the 1980s consisting of a thin plastic card with a chip, card number, expiration date and cardholder name.

Feinberg's Loan and Pawn, a San Francisco store of that era, did not accept credit cards, a policy written out on a banner behind its counter. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
