A breeder was someone who cultivated new breeds of animal or plant life.

Prior to 2372, Tuvok bred prized Vulcan orchid. Upon hearing this, Neelix realized they had something in common, as he also bred orchids, although his were for culinary purposes. (VOY: "Tattoo")
