Braving the Unknown: Season One is a ten minute special released on the VOY Season 1 DVD.
This short subject gives an insight on the creation of Star Trek: Voyager and the early development process with interviews by Rick Berman (30 July 2003), Michael Piller (19 September 2003), and Jeri Taylor (8 November 1994).
While explaining the development of the Maquis, short clips from DS9: "The Maquis, Part I" and TNG: "Preemptive Strike" and "Journey's End" can be seen. Besides several clips and stills from VOY: "Caretaker", this special also includes several production stills from Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, VOY: "Phage", and VOY: "Basics, Part I".
Also included are several clips of a production meeting of the creators with the department heads, a cast photo of DS9 Season 5, and individual promotion shots of the Voyager main cast.
