The basilar artery was a type of artery located in the Human brain stem that supplied the brain with oxygen.
In 2371, Chief Miles O'Brien experienced a series of time shifts into the future, one of which showed his deceased future self lying on a biobed. A future Doctor Julian Bashir explained that he had died due to damage to his basilar artery which had been missed on the standard scans. He told O'Brien to tell his past self to run a basilar arterial scan when he returned to his present in order to prevent his death. (DS9: "Visionary")
