The Lamarr class was a type of Federation starship operated by Starfleet as a science vessel during the late 24th century.

History[]

The USS Voyager-A in spacedock

The Voyager-A in spacedock

The Lamarr-class was in service by 2384 when the USS Voyager-A sent shuttles to retrieve Dal R'El, Rok-Tahk, Jankom Pog, Gwyndala, Murf, and Zero from San Francisco Bay. (PRO: "Supernova, Part 2")

Later that year, Voyager had its maiden voyage. With most of Starfleet tied up with the Romulan evacuation, Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway, the legendary captain of the original USS Voyager, volunteered to act as the commanding officer. Officially, the science vessel's first mission was to study the Janeway wormhole, but Janeway was actually intending to launch a rescue mission for her former first officer, Captain Chakotay. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I", "Into the Breach, Part II") Voyager would go on to play a pivotal role in stopping Asencia's plot to destroy the Federation and in repairing the temporal paradox which threatened to destroy the universe. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part I", "Ouroboros, Part II")

Technical data[]

Physical arrangement[]

The hull configuration of the Lamarr-class adopted the saucer-type shape of previous starship classes, consisting of primary hull, secondary hull, and nacelles driven by the physics of warp generation and control.

Decks[]

The Lamarr-class had 29 decks with 800 crew members and 2 schools. There was also 2 shuttlebays, but the ships had at least one other hanger that could be refitted into a third shuttlebay. This hanger was located behind the deflector dish on the port side of the ship. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I", "Into the Breach, Part II")

Deck 1 held the bridge while deck 8 held sickbay. Deck 9 appeared to hold the primary transporter room, although there were also transporter rooms on at least decks 1 and 8. (PRO: "Cracked Mirror")

Tactical systems[]

Ships of this class were equipped with bio-molecular weapons, isokinetic cannons, nuclear missiles, phase cannons, phased plasma torpedoes, phasers, photon torpedoes, polaron torpedoes, spatial torpedoes, quantum torpedoes, tetryon cannon, and tricobalt devices. (PRO: "Observer's Paradox", "Ascension, Part I", "Ascension, Part II", "Ouroboros, Part I", "Ouroboros, Part II")

Ships of this class had a battle bridge. (PRO: "The Devourer of All Things, Part II")

Scientific capabilities[]

As a science vessel, Lamarr-class ships carried advanced probes for data collection which could also be used as a relay for transmissions. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part II", "Temporal Mechanics 101")

According to The Doctor, Lamarr-class ships were refitted stem to stern with the latest and greatest technologies collected by the USS Voyager from the Delta Quadrant "and then some." (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I")

Lamarr-class ships had over 16 holodecks and a Cetacean Ops facility. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I") It also had holographic projectors throughout the ship, allowing holograms such as The Doctor and the holo-duplicates of the young USS Protostar crew to move freely about the ship without being restricted to either sickbay, the holodecks, or requiring a mobile emitter like on the original Voyager. (PRO: "Imposter Syndrome", "The Fast and the Curious", "Is There in Beauty No Truth?")

Shuttlebay and cargo facilities[]

The Lamarr had a fore and an aft shuttlebay and a shuttlebay on the port side. This class of ship had six Sacagawea-type shuttlecrafts and rescue shuttles.

There was a fore and aft warehouse. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I")

Propulsion systems[]

Along with its impulse engines and warp drive, Lamarr-class ships were equipped with a quantum slipstream drive. (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I")

Presumably using its slipstream drive, Lamarr-class ships were capable of traveling as far as Solum, a planet in the Delta Quadrant, in a fairly short period of time despite the considerable distance between the Delta Quadrant and Federation space. (PRO: "Brink") A similar trip took the USS Sacagawea, a diplomatic shuttle, about five months, (PRO: "Into the Breach, Part I", "Into the Breach, Part II") although earlier travel through an abandoned Borg transwarp conduit was also likely a factor in reducing the distance that Voyager had to travel. (PRO: "The Devourer of All Things, Part I")

The class was capable of atmospheric entry and landing on a planet. (PRO: "Ouroboros, Part II")
