Part 2: Getting laid off sucks. But I firmly believe your interview process and employee experience should not. Here are three actions you + your company can take to create a better candidate and employee experience. ✍ Audit and review job descriptions. Remove vague, biased, and unnecessary bullets + requirements, and add in information about the interview process and how candidates can submit accommodation requests. ⏩ Block off time to review new applications on a regular and frequent cadence. 🤝 Host and prioritize weekly 1:1s with your direct reports. Here's the agenda template I always come back to: 1. Recognition - call out and celebrate what your people are doing well! 2. Wellbeing check-in, 3. Updates / Coaching, 4. Here are three actions you + your company can take to create a better candidate and employee experience. ⏲ Schedule reminders to follow up with candidates every 48-72 hours, even if it is a "no update update". A day can feel LONG when you're on the job search and waiting to hear back. 📩 Set up a workflow to close out all candidates when a role is filled. This is a small act that can give candidates the closure they need and deserve. 💬 Promote a culture of open communication and transparency by setting up regular All Hands / Town Halls, anonymous suggestion boxes / Q&A forms, Office Hours, and feedback surveys. —————————- 🤞🏼I am #OpenToWork and looking for a new role in #peopleoperations and all leads are deeply appreciated. Post Disruptive layoffs, we formed a Discord server so the crew could stay in touch and support each other during this time of transition and job searching. This group continues to fill up my cup with joy + laughter every day and I'm forever grateful to have this community.❤️ I shared this in our Discord earlier this week, but I think it's also worth sharing here too because getting laid off and job searching can be an incredibly human, humbling, emotional and lonely experience. I want you to know that if your application was rejected, it is just that. Your application was rejected. Not you as a human being. I want you to know that if you were ghosted after an interview, it is a reflection on the company's recruiting process. Not you as a human being. It can be difficult to separate out our sense of worth and humanity from our job search and the hiring process. Hi all! Life update: I was recently laid off from my role at Disruptive Games. After taking some time off to rest + recharge, bake A LOT, and catch some awesome snow at Crystal Mountain 🏂, I am officially #opentowork and staring my job search. Thanks in advance for any connections, advice or opportunities you can offer! The role I'm looking for: 🔎 I am deeply grateful for my time as a Recruiter - it allowed me to connect with so many amazing humans and help them land their dream jobs. For my next role though, I want to stay in a more generalist role (HR Generalist / People Ops Generalist) where I can continue to use and deepen my People Ops experience + skills, and have a bigger impact on developing a more meaningful and inclusive employee experience - from the interview process to offboarding .
