Yesterday one of Grokker’s long-time employees, Jim Ambach, retired. It was a bittersweet moment for me and everyone here at Grokker who has had the privilege of working with Jim over the past ten years. Tuesday through Thursday (our in-person days) you could count on seeing Jim bright and early in the office, clad in Adidas sneakers and a button-down, with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a dad joke to share. As CTO and more recently leading our Security and R&D efforts, Jim led our Product, Engineering, and Design teams with equal measures of intelligence, tenacity, and empathy. Jim’s wealth of broad-based knowledge made him a “go-to” on everything from AI to the Washington Commanders. Though we’d all collectively groan when he spoke about that latter. Despite his questionable taste in football teams and sandwich purveyors, I know I can speak for not just his team but the Grokker team at large when I say he will be sorely missed. Jim, thank you for all your hard work, honesty, positivity, and for living each of Grokker’s core values — making work fun, giving the team the freedom to express themselves and share ideas, knowing that results truly do matter, believing that work is personal, and always putting our members at the center of the Grokkerverse. Congratulations on your graduation from Grokker! We wish you all the best and hope to see you soon and often.

There are xooglers, ex-yahoos, ex-fb... but Grokkers will always be Grokkers. Welcome to the other half of that club, Jim Ambach. :) Grokker is a special place that remains a part of everyone who helped build it.

Thank you all for the kind words, and thank you Lorna Borenstein for Grokker! I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked at Grokker for the last almost ten years, and it was wonderful to finish my career there. I'm excited to join the ranks of the Grokker alumni!

Why are you retiring at 30?

One of my favorite leaders of all time! I think this means I won't get to work with you again professionally, which is a bit of a personal bummer, but far outweighed by the good feelings of you getting to transition to the next thing. Congrats!

Congratulations Jim Ambach now you can finally be a full time Rockstar 🤘
