God's Love We Deliver

In celebration of our birthday month - God’s Love was founded on May 1st, 1985 - we collaborated with Tony Award Winner Bonnie Milligan, along with Broadway stars Arielle Jacobs, Bradley Gibson, and Zachary Noah Piser to create “Delivering Love,” our latest music video! Our parody of “Seasons of Love” from the legendary musical RENT calls back to the AIDS crisis in New York City, when God’s Love was founded to feed those who were homebound with AIDS. Having grown to cook and home-deliver more than 4 million meals annually, we address over 200 individual diagnoses with our medically tailored meals. Our core commitments have remained at the heart of who we are: delivering meals to everyone who need us, never having a waitlist, and delivering meals the next delivery day. Our Manager of Research and Evaluation, Kelly V. Naranjo, recently presented the American Society for Nutrition's annual conference, Nutrition 2024! As God's Love continues to grow and expand our academic partnerships, our incoming clinical trial will examine the effects of medically tailored meals on client health. Collecting client-centered feedback has been a major part of our research efforts; we're grateful for Kelly's work and can't wait for her to present future findings at Nutrition 2025! 🍏

God’s Love We Deliver is proud to work with Capital One, a true partner in helping to serve and nourish New Yorkers living with life-altering illness. Last week, God’s Love was honored to participate in ‘A Conversation with New York City Community Leaders,’ a special roundtable hosted by Capital One that convened organizations and local leaders across New York City’s nonprofit sector. We greatly appreciate the chance to share challenges, best practices, wins, and big ideas with colleagues at peer organizations meeting the needs of New Yorkers through a range of lenses -- from workforce development and mentorship, to financial counseling and affordable housing. Thank you to William Owh, Priscilla Williams-Chukwu, and the team at Capital One for including us in the conversation! And, a special thanks to the Capital One volunteers who came to the God’s Love kitchen this past week to help us to prepare the more than 15,000 meals that we cook and package every day. "Fore!" ⛳️ Pro Golfer and Morgan Stanley Brand Ambassador, Justin Rose, visited the kitchen this week with our friends at Morgan Stanley, where they packed thousands of medically tailored meals for our clients! "I learned how much of a need there is out there and how much of a huge support [God's Love] gives," Justin says. God's Love is proud to work with Morgan Stanley and our partners across New York City to deliver meals to people who need them! ❤

We are proud to announce that God's Love We Deliver executive team members, Marla Hassner and Stephen Covello, have been included on the Crain's New York Business Notable LGBTQIA+ Leaders list! 🏳️🌈 Before they arrived at God's Love, both Marla and Stephen knew the impact HIV/AIDS was having in New York City. As our services expanded to include all severe illnesses, Marla and Stephen worked to ensure all New Yorkers who needed our services could receive the meals and nutrition counseling they needed. In her role as Chief Human Resources Officer, Marla ensures that all our nearly 200 employees feel supported and empowered. As Chief Philanthropy Officer, Stephen has worked to strengthen donor relationships and expand opportunities for public engagement with God's Love. "Pride to me means freedom... comfort, to be who I am," says Stephen. "Pride means the freedom to be who I am, always," says Marla. Juneteenth is a commemoration of the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to inform enslaved African Americans that the Civil War had ended, and they were free. The troops’ arrival came more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday and joyous celebrations are held nationwide. Whether you celebrate home or with your community, at the center of most observances are rich culinary traditions. As we prepare meals for our clients in the God’s Love kitchen, we do so in pursuit of a more just society. On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to support the Black community by addressing inequities in health, nutrition, policy, and food access. God’s Love will be closed today to allow staff and volunteers to reflect, honor, and celebrate. Happy Juneteenth!

We are thrilled FIMC agencies Community Servings, God's Love We Deliver and Project Open Hand were among those who attended the American Heart Association’s inaugural Health Care x Food Grantee and Collaborator meeting.     These agencies are among those awarded funding from the AHA as part of their Health Care by Food Initiative. This research will further demonstrate the effectiveness of #foodismedicine in health care.
