Last week, Feeding America attended the UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) conference as part of our Latino community engagement and outreach. UnidosUS is the largest Latino civil rights organization in the United States. Through their unique combination of research, advocacy, programs, and a national network of nearly 300 community-based affiliate organizations across the country, they simultaneously challenge the social, economic, and political barriers that affect Latinos in the United States across a range of key issues including civil rights and racial equity, education, health, immigration, voting empowerment and more. 13 Feeding America partner food banks proudly attended to learn from, support, and uplift the mission of UnidosUS. #UnidosUS24 Learn more: unidosus.org

We had a thrilling weekend at Iowa Speedway earlier this month, where numerous leaders from partner food banks across the Midwest including Feeding America's own Chief Supply Chain Officer, Erika Thiem, came together at the Hy-Vee One Step 250 INDYCAR Race to support the movement to end hunger. Erika thanked Hy-Vee, Inc. and its suppliers and customers for funding 75 million of the company’s 100 Million Meals goal so far. And the retailer isn’t stopping until it crosses the finish line! Throughout the 2024 NTT INDYCAR season, Hy-Vee will continue to work with partner food banks to raise awareness about hunger through its register round-up across all Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh Market, and Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations. #100MMeals Learn more about how you can help Hy-Vee’s campaign: bit.ly/3rKcmD1

When disaster strikes, food banks are among the first to respond—ready to deploy and provide support, food and supplies to impacted communities. As weather crises like tornados, hurricanes and wildfires intensify, it is crucial that federal programs like The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)—which moves food from farms to food banks to people who need food assistance—have the necessary resources to meet demand. 🖊️ Tell Congress to help food banks provide essential aid when disaster strikes—strengthen TEFAP in the next farm bill: https://bit.ly/3WaakYk 🧡 Share this post to help fuel the movement to end hunger!

At Feeding America, health equity means that all people facing hunger have a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health. Last month, 11 food banks gathered at Feeding America for an inspiring two days to connect, share insights and build strategies that enhance health equity programs. With support from partners like Bank of America, these food banks are furthering their health equity work, helping them better understand their community's health needs and working with them as dedicated partners, specifically in the healthcare sector, to improve food security in their local communities. "The Bank of America grant is going to continue to strengthen our foundation and further our reach and efforts in being culturally responsive, interculturally competent, and an effective service provider amongst the diverse communities that we serve. This funding is being directly utilized to expand and stabilize our Healthy Foods Express distribution model, which focuses on serving very rural and urban dense communities across the state. It has been instrumental in getting fresh and healthy food options." -Shelbi Corriz, Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico Learn more about the connection between hunger and health here: bit.ly/3rKhuav

According to the latest USDA research, 1 in 5 children experience food insecurity in the U.S. The problem worsens every year when schools close for summer and millions of kids lose reliable access to breakfast and lunch. But there’s good news! USDA’s new, permanent grocery assistance program called SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, can help close the summer hunger gap. 🎒 SUN Bucks is a proven tool to reduce child hunger and support better nutrition. Providing families with grocery benefits during the summer months helps ensure every child has access to the nourishment they need, even when school is out. 🧡 🎥 Learn more about SUN Bucks from Feeding America supporter Chrissy Teigen 💻 Find FAQs and additional details at https://lnkd.in/eJEcE-Wz
