Quality is important. It is why we put forth the first-ever standard for the medically-tailored meal intervention. Ours is an evergreen standard we plan to evolve with nutrition science and research to help scale equitable access to this life saving intervention. Via STAT #foodismedicine

Medicaid policy is complicated! Are you engaged in food is medicine work but still navigating the complicated legal landscape? We are deeply grateful to our colleagues at the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation for their invaluable work on our groundbreaking field-wide resource, Food is Medicine State Policy Toolkit, to ensure accuracy and rigor. We are thrilled to see our FIMC colleagues from God's Love We Deliver sharing their research efforts with attendees at the American Society for Nutrition's annual conference Nutrition 2024 in Chicago! The future of nutrition is most certainly bright thanks to folks like Kelly V. Naranjo! #foodismedicine
What a true honor to have attended Nutrition 2024. I had such a wonderful time meeting colleagues from University of California, Davis; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); American Heart Association and of course seeing our friends at the The National Institutes of Health Office Nutrition Research. It was genuinely fantastic to talk about our research at God's Love We Deliver; the extensive efforts we have made to ensure we include and collect client-centered feedback; some of our work with our academic partners to build the foundation for our research independence, and how this work is connected to our current submissions, to larger grants and of course our incoming clinical trial. I am excited to share future findings at next year’s conference and in the coming weeks. #nutrition2024 #FoodisMedicine #MedicallyTailoredMeals #HealthEquity

FIMC is so appreciative of the speedy consideration and advancement of H.R. 8816, the American Medical Innovation and Investment Act, which contains an updated version of H.R. 6780, the Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Demonstration Pilot Act, by the Committee today. By quickly advancing H.R. 8816 to the floor of the House of Representatives with an affirmative vote, the Committee on Ways & Means has already taken a critical step to expand access to Medially Tailored Meals (MTMs), bend the health care cost curve, and provide medically vulnerable seniors with healthy and delicious medically tailored meals in their homes. ✅FIMC urges a speedy passage of H.R. 8816 to advance equitable access to this lifesaving intervention!

Integrating food is medicine interventions into traditional health care just makes sense. In a recent article in Health Affairs, authors Hilary Seligman and Rocco Perla note that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have two timely opportunities to improve access to food-related benefits in Medicare Advantage. In doing so, CMS could “give providers the autonomy to include healthy food in their treatment plans when clinically appropriate and help relieve the burden and cost to clinical practices of navigating patients to these resources.” Read more below.
