Official Rules for Current Sweepstakes Period

(7/1/24 - 3/31/25)

  1. SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY PERIODS: The Citizens Scholarship Sweepstakes (the “Sweepstakes”) begins 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on July 1, 2024 and ends 11:59 p.m. ET on March 31, 2025 (the “Sweepstakes Period”). The Sweepstakes Period is divided into Monthly Entry Periods (“Monthly Entry Periods”) which correspond with the start and end dates of each calendar month until the end of the Sweepstakes Period. The Sweepstakes Period is also divided into three (3) Quarterly Entry Periods (“Quarterly Entry Periods”), as defined in the chart below.
  2. ELIGIBILITY: Open to legal residents of the 50 United States, Washington D.C., and United States Territories who are 16 years of age or older and are Prospective Students (defined below) or parents/legal guardians of Prospective Students. Employees and their immediate family members (immediate family member means any child, stepchild, grandchild, parent, stepparent, grandparent, spouse, former spouse, sibling, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law, including adoptive relationships and any person sharing the employee's household) of Citizens Bank, N.A. (the “Sponsor”), Sponsor's affiliate companies, and their advertising and promotion agencies involved with this Sweepstakes, parent companies, subsidiaries, divisions, affiliates and related companies are not eligible to participate or win. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Prospective Student Definition: For the purposes of this Sweepstakes, a Prospective Student is defined as a person intending to enroll, or enrolled at least half-time, in an accredited undergraduate/graduate post-secondary institution (“School”) within one (1) year of winning an award. Please note that students approved for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services division of the Department of Homeland Security who also possess a valid Social Security Number shall be considered eligible for the Sweepstakes. In addition to the preceding criteria, to be eligible for the Citizens Scholarship for Underrepresented and Underserved Communities ("Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship") during a Quarterly Entry Period, entrants must also meet at least one (1) of the five (5) criteria listed below. The Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship criteria are intended to foster a broadly defined, inclusive applicant pool, to include individuals who have varying life experiences and who are part of an underserved or underrepresented population. Those criteria include:

    • Financial need: Students and/or their family/household is at or below the current federal poverty guidelines.
    • Disability.
    • Veteran status: Students who are an active military member or veteran.
    • Underserved population: Students and/or their family/household is a member of a vulnerable or underserved population as defined by the federal. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which characterizes underserved, vulnerable, and special needs populations as communities that include members of minority populations or individuals who have experienced health disparities.
    • Unique life experience: Students who have faced or are facing adversity or unique challenges. This could include but is not limited to students with a chronic illness or health challenge; students who have lost an immediate family member or sponsor; non-traditional full-time students.
  3. HOW TO ENTER: During the Sweepstakes Period, Prospective Students (or their parent or legal guardian) (“Entrants”) can enter the Sweepstakes by visiting Citizensbank.com/scholarship (“Website”) and following the directions to complete the on-screen registration form in its entirety, including the name of the Prospective Student’s School, their state of residence, whether the Entrant is a Prospective Student or the parent of a Prospective Student, and the level of education the Prospective Student has completed (“Entry”).
  4. Only Entries received during the Sweepstakes Period will be eligible for the Sweepstakes. Entries must be in English. Entries that do not meet the requirements set forth in these Official Rules will be disqualified. Entrants are limited to submitting one (1) Entry per person/email address per month; however, non-winning Entries will rollover into any subsequent Monthly Entry Period(s) and Quarterly Entry Period(s) (as applicable). Entries must be received by 11:59 PM ET on the last day of each Entry Period in order to be eligible for the random drawing for that applicable Entry Period (defined below). Any attempt by any Entrant to obtain more than the stated number of Entries by using multiple email accounts, identities, registrations and logins, or any other methods will void that Entrant's entries and that Entrant may be disqualified from the Sweepstakes. Use of any automated system to participate is prohibited and will result in disqualification. In the event of a dispute as to any registration, the authorized account holder of the email account used to enter the Sweepstakes will be deemed to be the Entrant.

  1. RANDOM DRAWINGS AND ODDS: Nine (9) Monthly Entry Period Prize (“Monthly Entry Period Prize” or “Prize”) winners [one (1) for each Monthly Entry Period] will be selected in separate random drawings on or about the dates listed in the chart above, from among all eligible Entries received by the end of each Monthly Entry Period. Approximate odds of winning a Monthly Entry Period Prize are dependent upon the total number of eligible Entries received by the end of each applicable Entry Period. Three (3) Quarterly Entry Period Prize (“Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship Prize”, “Quarterly Prize” or “Prize”) winners [one (1) for each Quarterly Entry Period] will be selected in separate random drawings on or about the dates listed in the chart above, from among all eligible Entries received by the end of each Quarterly Entry Period that meet the Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship requirements. Approximate odds of winning a Quarterly Prize are dependent upon the total number of eligible Entries that meet the Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship requirements received by the end of each applicable Quarterly Entry Period. On or about April 3, 2025, one (1) Grand Prize winner (“Grand Prize” or “Prize”) will be selected in a separate drawing (“Grand Prize Drawing”) from among all eligible Entries submitted during the Sweepstakes Period. Approximate odds of winning the Grand Prize are dependent upon the total number of eligible Entries received during the entire Sweepstakes Period. All random drawings will be conducted by Administrator, an independent judging organization whose decisions are final on all matters relating to the random drawings.
  2. WINNER NOTIFICATION: Potential winners (and their parent or legal guardian, as appropriate for any minor Entrants), will be notified via email and/or phone and will be required to electronically sign and return a Declaration of Eligibility, liability/publicity release (except where prohibited by law) and assignment of rights (“Declaration Package”) within five (5) days of notification attempt or potential winner may be disqualified and an alternate potential winner may be randomly selected. Return of Declaration Package as undeliverable, if any portion of the Declaration Package is not received within the required time period, or if a potential winner is deemed ineligible, said winner will be disqualified and an alternate will be selected (as outlined above).
  3. PRIZES: (1) Grand Prize: $15,000 from Citizens to be used towards school expenses awarded in the form of a check and paid directly to the winner’s (or winner’s prospective student’s) school; (3) Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship Prizes – (1 per quarter; available only to Entrants that meet Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship eligibility): $2,500 from Citizens to be used towards their school expenses, awarded in the form of a check and paid directly to the winner’s (or winner’s prospective student’s) school; (9) Monthly Entry Period Prizes – (1 per month): $2,500 from Citizens to be used towards their school expenses, awarded in the form of a check and paid directly to the winner’s (or winner’s prospective student’s) school.

    Scholarship Prizes are to be used solely toward the required tuition, fees, books or supplies in connection with the enrollment of the winner or winner’s child/charge at an educational institution that meets the requirements set forth in Section 117 of the Internal Revenue Code and the regulations thereunder. Prizes are not subject to Federal Income Tax if used in accordance with the requirements of Section 117 of the Internal Revenue Code. All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of winners/parents/legal guardians. No substitution or transfer of prize permitted except that the Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize for one of equal or greater value, in its sole discretion. A 1099 tax statement will be filed with the IRS for the value of the Prize. All winners that receive a Prize will receive a 1099 form in the mail, to be processed in the tax year in which their prize is received. Limit one (1) Monthly Entry Period Prize or one (1) Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship Prize per Entrant for the duration of the Sweepstakes Period. For example, an entrant could win a maximum of one (1) Monthly Entry Period Prize and one (1) Grand Prize, or an entrant could win a maximum of one (1) Citizens Building the Workforce of the Future Scholarship Prize and one (1) Grand Prize.

  4. GENERAL RULES: Sponsor reserves the right to conduct a background check on the Prize winners and their parents and/or legal guardians and reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Prize winner based on the results of such background check(s), if Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that awarding a prize to such winner might reflect negatively on Sponsor. Factors that would result in disqualification as a winner may include, without limitation, any winner having been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, being delinquent on a government ordered payment, such as child support, spousal support, alimony, tax payments, etc. As a condition of entry into the Sweepstakes, all Entrants agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor and its Administrators, each of their respective agencies, corporate parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and each of their respective officers, directors, shareholders, members, employees, agents, assigns, and all others associated with the development and execution of the Sweepstakes (collectively the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with submitting an Entry or otherwise participating in any aspect of the Sweepstakes, the receipt, ownership or use of prize awarded or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or the announcement or offering of the prizes. Entrants assume all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused by participation in the Sweepstakes or use or redemption of the prizes. Acceptance of a Prize constitutes permission to use Entrants’ names, likenesses, and Entries for promotional purposes, without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. By entering, Entrants accept and agree to be bound by these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes; violates the Official Rules; acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner; or acts with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person, college or university. The Released Parties are not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic communications, whether caused by the sender, by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Sweepstakes which may limit the ability to participate, or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the Entries in the Sweepstakes. Entries generated by script or bot are not eligible. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Sweepstakes if it cannot be completed as planned for any reason, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical failures or corruption of any sort. In such event, Sponsor will randomly select the potential winners for all remaining prizes due to be awarded prior to cancellation for each applicable drawing. Sponsor reserves the right to award fewer than the stated number of available prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible Entries are received for any Entry Period.
  5. DISPUTES: Entrants agree that: (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and solely and exclusively in a federal or state court located in the State of Rhode Island; Entrants submit to sole and exclusive personal jurisdiction to said courts in the State of Rhode Island for any such dispute and irrevocably waives any and all rights to object to such jurisdiction; (b) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out of pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Sweepstakes but in no event attorneys' fees; and (c) under no circumstances will Entrants be permitted to obtain awards for and Entrants hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. ENTRANT HEREBY AGREES THAT ENTRANT WILL NOT BRING A CLASS ACTION OR PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION AGAINST SPONSOR WITH RESPECT TO A SWEEPSTAKES. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of Entrants in connection with this Sweepstakes shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Rhode Island, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules of provisions (whether of the State of Rhode Island, the United States, or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Rhode Island.
  6. Data Collection: Sponsor collects personal information from Entrants when they submit an Entry for the Sweepstakes for use in administration of the Sweepstakes. The information collected is subject to Citizens Bank, N.A.’s Privacy Policy located at https://www.citizensbank.com/account-safeguards/privacy.aspx. Completing the entry form also constitutes your consent to opt-in to Sponsor’s email marketing list. You may opt-out of Sponsor’s email marketing list at any time, by using any “unsubscribe” link. If you decide to opt-out, this will not affect your ability to enter the Sweepstakes or your odds of winning a prize in the Sweepstakes.

Approximate odds of winning the Grand Prize are dependent upon the total number of eligible Entries received during the entire Sweepstakes Period. Factors that would result in disqualification as a winner may include, without limitation, any winner having been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, being delinquent on a government ordered payment, such as child support, spousal support, alimony, tax payments, etc. As a condition of entry into the Sweepstakes, all Entrants agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor and its Administrators, each of their respective agencies, corporate parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and each of their respective officers, directors, shareholders, members, employees, agents, assigns, and all others associated with the development and execution of the Sweepstakes (collectively the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons or property which may be sustained in connection with submitting an Entry or otherwise participating in any aspect of the Sweepstakes, the receipt, ownership or use of prize awarded or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or the announcement or offering of the prizes. Entrants assume all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused by participation in the Sweepstakes or use or redemption of the prizes. Acceptance of a Prize constitutes permission to use Entrants' names, likenesses, and Entries for promotional purposes, without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. By entering, Entrants accept and agree to be bound by these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes; violates the Official Rules; acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner; or acts with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person, college or university. The Released Parties are not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic communications, whether caused by the sender, by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Sweepstakes which may limit the ability to participate, or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the Entries in the Sweepstakes. Entries generated by script or bot are not eligible. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Sweepstakes if it cannot be completed as planned for any reason, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical failures or corruption of any sort. In such event, Sponsor will randomly select the potential winners for all remaining prizes due to be awarded prior to cancellation for each applicable drawing. Sponsor reserves the right to award fewer than the stated number of available prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible Entries are received for any Entry Period.
  5. DISPUTES: Entrants agree that: (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and solely and exclusively in a federal or state court located in the State of Rhode Island; Entrants submit to sole and exclusive personal jurisdiction to said courts in the State of Rhode Island for any such dispute and irrevocably waives any and all rights to object to such jurisdiction; (b) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out of pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Sweepstakes but in no event attorneys' fees; and (c) under no circumstances will Entrants be permitted to obtain awards for and Entrants hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. ENTRANT HEREBY AGREES THAT ENTRANT WILL NOT BRING A CLASS ACTION OR PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION AGAINST SPONSOR WITH RESPECT TO A SWEEPSTAKES. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of Entrants in connection with this Sweepstakes shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Rhode Island, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules of provisions (whether of the State of Rhode Island, the United States, or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Rhode Island.
  6. Data Collection: Sponsor collects personal information from Entrants when they submit an Entry for the Sweepstakes for use in administration of the Sweepstakes. The information collected is subject to Citizens Bank N.A.’s Privacy Policy located at https://www.citizensbank.com/account-safeguards/privacy.aspx. Completing the entry form also constitutes your consent to opt-in to Sponsor’s email marketing list. You may opt-out of Sponsor’s email marketing list at any time, by using any “unsubscribe” link. If you decide to opt-out, this will not affect your ability to enter the Sweepstakes or your odds of winning a prize in the Sweepstakes.
