From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army knife a century ago comes the Victorinox Handyman, a compact do-it-all multi-tool that renders the toolbox almost unnecessary. Measuring 3.6 inches long, the Handyman is stylishly cased in a classic red housing with the familiar Victorinox logo on the side. More importantly, the unit contains several handy mini-tools for use around the house, including small and large blades, a can opener with a small screwdriver, a cap lifter with a screwdriver and wire stripper, mini-scissors, and a corkscrew. The Handyman adds to your toolkit with several other useful gadgets, including a wood saw, a chisel, pliers, a wire crimping tool, wire cutters, a fine screwdriver, and a nail file with a metal file, nail cleaner, and metal saw. Other mini-tools include a reamer with a punch, a toothpick, tweezers, a multipurpose hook that serves as a parcel carrier, and a key ring for easy transport.

As with all Victorinox items, the Handyman is made to exacting standards, with dozens of steps going into its construction. Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. The Handyman measures 3.6 by 1.1 by 1.1 inches (W x H x D), weighs 5.54 ounces, and carries a lifetime warranty.

    About Victorinox
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

I’m a mechanic by trade and have worked on all sorts of machinery, vehicles and equipment.

Here’s what I found for my life style.
• I have been without my super tool entire days at work and this knife has performed all the tasks required and has been pushed past the limits of what I would expect a knife like this to hold up to.
• Value & size opposed to Swiss champ was worth the buy with a smaller profile that lacks tools I wouldn’t use.
• Sharpness of the blade was surprising as I’ve owned countless Swiss Army knives and compares nicely to my super tool.
• I keep it on my keychain, which still remains portable and functional. I also enjoy the weight of the product in my pocket reminding me that my keys are there.
• It provides more comfort than putting my heavy super tool which lives on a belt pouch, in my pocket for more formal occasions.
• Non-Locking blade, with small profile which makes it legal for 98% of my travels abroad or in the U.S. vs my locking blade leather man knives.
• adding the mini screw driver are useful for tightening glasses that constantly come off as the screws are extremely tiny.

I would say that as far as a multi-tool goes if you’re constantly messing with stuff, a fixer and doer this is a buy. I would reserve the leather man for more commercial trades and industrial applications and run this thing daily if I wasn’t doing those.

OK, this is the one.

I have carried a Swiss Army Knife every day for over 50 years, and I own over 50 SAKs.

In the past, here on Amazon, I have lauded the Climber, the Huntsman, the Small Tinker, the Executive, and several others. And those are all great! The Climber is arguably the best Urban EDC knife. The Huntsman is arguably the best all-arounder. The Small Tinker is a little jewel: it's the best knife for a kid, and the best gift for someone you can't sit down with to do a SAK workshop (like, groomsman's gifts for a wedding). The Excecutive is a sleeper, but really good. (Fun factoid: In addition to being a legendary pilot in war and peace, Chuck Yeager was an outdoorsman of renown. All his life, well into his 70s, he and a friend would go spend a couple weeks in the Sierra Nevada mountains, living off the land. And, guess what knife he took? It was the Victorinox Executive.)

Anyway.

For years, I didn't see the point of a SAK bigger/thicker than the Climber, unless you went all in for the SwissChamp, because you only experience the value of a SAK when you carry it all the time. All. The. Time. And a three-layer like the Climber was my limit.

But then I discovered the TEC P-7 Keychain Suspension Clip. With one of these, any SAK is perfectly comfortable in your pocket. All. The. Time.

So, you could go for the SwissChamp, but, while it's fine in your pocket with the clip, it's just too big in the hand.

But the Handyman isn't. It's comfortable in the hand. It's a nice, satisfying, hand-filling pocket knife. And, it has all the important tools.

Let me repeat that: it has *all* the important tools. No, it doesn't have a Phillips screwdriver, but it doesn't need one. The driver-end of the can opener works better on Phillips screws than either the back-mounted or in-line Phillips that you can get on SAKs. By getting a knife with a Phillips you are not getting an extra tool. And if you get one that has the back-mounted T-style Phillips, you're actually giving up a great tool: the corkscrew. OK, so maybe you don't drink wine (I do, and I use it as a corkscrew). Even so, the corkscrew is very useful... it's great for untying stubborn knots, and it holds the mini-screwdriver (which, in addition to working with small screws, is the best-ever tool for working with split rings). I could go on.

For me, the Handyman (with the pocket clip) is a Huntsman (the best all-arounder) that also has the pliers and file, both of which are excellent tools that I use all the time.

I don't miss the fish-scaler that I would get with the SwissChamp (even though the straight edge and ruler are actually useful, and the hook-disgorger tip is a great little fork/tool for getting olives out of the jar). I don't miss the in-line Phillips, for reasons discussed above. A magnifying glass is cool and (with my old eyes) useful, but it's plastic, and that just feels wrong. So I don't miss the extras I would get with a SwissChamp. Instead I have... and can't live without... a pocket knife that does everything I could want and actually feels like a pocket knife when I use it.

(To get full credit, you also should get the "Plus" scales, so you can have the ballpoint pen. And, no, it's not silly and too skinny to use: you're supposed to open the parcel hook, slot the back end of the pen in there, and then (partially) close the hook. Then it's fine. It's comfortable to use as a pen.) (So far as I can tell, these days the Plus scales are only available on eBay and Etsy.)

I’m a long time user of SAKs and have relied on their quality and durability more than a few times. I didn’t want one of the many plier based monstrosities out there. I needed a compact kit. This knife is solid, exhibits excellent Swiss craftsmanship and has a great selection of tools. Every pack should contain one of these as the Handyman has what you need.

Someone I knew had a Swisschamp tool. It has just about every Victorinoxc tool you could think of except the Cybertool set, and excluding some very exotic tools of some very exotic knives that will not fit in your pocket unless you are a kangaroo. Now some people carry the Swisschamp and are very happy with that (maybe) but for most people the Swisschamp is a mite large.
After copius research I discovered that if you buy a Handyman and Explorer you will have EVERY tool the Swisschamp has EXCEPT the fishscaler/ruler, which of course EVERYBODY wants (not) in a 2 knife set that is much easier to manage. Now of course EACH knife will have the tools of the Climber in both, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, if you carry one knfe at a time. All I know is that I carry an Explorer that I have had for 40 years, and that now that I bought a Handyman, I now have a complete set. Now if you got a Cybertool M or L instead you would have a DIFFERENT complete set. To each his own!

The Champ is just too bulky for me, and the magnifying glass is the only thins one could possibly miss: I find this to me the most maxed out yet still USEFUL SAK: eg. works to tighten loose doorknob screws while the Champ is so bulky it is impossible as the sides would hit the knob each half turn-so this knife REALLY hits a sweet spot! The pliers are indeed not as strong as a Leatherman but again, again this hits a sweet spot-small and light enough for routine carry and good enough to repair MOST stuff fully-others, get it enough snug for later definitive repair. This and a business sized flexible business sized magnifying lens is a far better choice than the Champ.

I like lots about it. The pliers proved useful the first day I had the handyman. I didn't expect to use the pliers but then i needed something to grab something I couldnt quite get with my fingers. I'm sure glad I got them in my pocket. When it comes to usefulness, this model has everything you could ever need. I've used at least one if not more of the tools on this setup more then once a day.
