Care Tips for Swiss Army Knives
The various tools of a Swiss Army Knife are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. To maintain Swiss Army Knives, use a 15°–20° angle whetstone for sharpening, or a cooling grinding wheel. Clean by opening and closing in warm water, then apply oil. Avoid dishwashers to prevent damage.

TINY TOOLBOX This small knife has big ambitions. The 2.3" MiniChamp features 16 tools, stainless steel construction, and Swiss-Made precision – making it an indispensable companion on your daily adventures and quick fixes. FEATURES 16 FUNCTIONS: Blade Nail File with – Nail Cleaner Scissors Cuticle Pusher Screwdriver with – Ruler Emergency Blade (Letter Opener) Hook Tool/Package Opener with – Scraper Bottle Opener with – Magnetic Phillips Screwdriver – Wire Stripper Key Ring Tweezers Retractable Ballpoint Pen CARE TIPS FOR YOUR SWISS ARMY KNIFE The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. SHARPENING To re-sharpen your knife, use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, always cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures and the resulting damages that may occur. CLEANING If the blades of knife begin to stick together, open and close the blades in warm water several times - this will allow the tools to move easily again. Once dry, apply a drop of Swiss Army Knife Oil between each tool and its spring. Do not put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher. HISTORY & HERITAGE In 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland. There, he and his cutlers’ union produced the finest steel cutlery, finished with the now-famous proprietary edge preferred globally by professionals and home cooks. Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife and Officer’s Knife. After the death of his mother, and with the advent of stainless steel, Karl changed the name of the company to Victorinox. It is from those humble beginnings that a worldwide icon was born. Today, Victorinox is still owned and operated by the Elsener family, and both the company and family still resides in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland.
Amazon.com
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army knife a century ago comes this complete set of tools for men and women to tuck into pocket, purse, glove compartment, fishing-tackle box, or anyplace else where it can be found in a hurry. Measuring just 2-1/4 inches long--smaller than a pack of gum--and sheathed in the famous Swiss Army red plastic, the MiniChamp II pocket knife is a toolbox and manicure kit small enough to fit into a pocket or clip onto a key ring. A valued companion, this pocket knife consists of 11 separate tools and carries a lifetime warranty against defects.
The tools folded inside the pocket knife include a small knife blade, scissors, a nail file, a nail cleaner, a cuticle pusher, tweezers, a cap lifter with a magnetic Phillips head screwdriver, a scraper, a ball point pen, an emergency blade, and a screwdriver with ruler. --Fred Brack

The remaining functions (including the ubiquitous keyring) are a generally well thought out collection of useful tools.
-There are two blades of similar length, which might seem redundant, but each is a different shape making them well-suited for different tasks. They’re thin but sturdy and very sharp and hold their edge.
-The orange peeler does its job, cutting cleanly through the skin without digging into the meat of the fruit. It also excels at opening those aggravatingly secure blister packages that everything seems to come in these days.
-The scissors are good for small scale tasks, like cutting fishing line, or removing tags from a newly purchased item of clothing. They’re the classic Victorinox design with the flat wire spring which some people don’t like but I've never had a problem with in all the decades I've owned and used Victorinox knives and tools.
-The small flathead screwdriver works well for screws like what you find holding a lightswitch cover in place, and as a light-duty pry-bar for jobs like removing a battery cover from a child’s toy or a TV remote. This is also where you find the questionably useful ruler etched down the broad side of the blade. There are markings for both inches and centimetres, although the fine, grey lines are somewhat difficult to see against the silvery backdrop.
-The Phillips head screwdriver is the thickest tool on the knife but is fine-tipped enough to be used for eyeglasses repair. This implement does triple duty as bottle opener and wire stripper, but I can’t comment on those functions simply because I’ve never used them.
-The keyring is a tiny split-ring that can be used as, well, as a keyring, but only for a single key because it’s too small for more, or it can be attached to a larger collection of keys, or used as an attachment point for a lanyard.
-The nail file is my most-used tool and works very well keeping my nails smooth and short. Unlike the nail file on most other Victorinox knives, the one on the MiniChamp has a pointed tip which I prefer because it makes it easier to scrape the gunk out from under my nails.
-There is, of course, a pair of tweezers slotted into one end. What can I say? They’re tweezers and function exactly as you would expect. They’re good for pulling a splinter out of a finger, or picking up a small object like a sewing needle. No toothpick on the MiniChamp because the other side of the knife holds the pen; however, if you prefer a toothpick to tweezers, you can always buy a package of replacement toothpicks and simply swap out the tweezers.
-The pen seems like a gimmick at first but is, in fact, quite practical. You won't want to use it to take notes during a lecture, but it's perfect for signing your name, jotting down a short reminder, or adding to a shopping list. People are always surprised when I pull out my pocket knife to write something down -- “Those Swiss think of everything,” said a coworker -- and I once had to go to almost heroic lengths to convince someone that I wasn’t joking when he asked to borrow a pen, and I offered him the MiniChamp with the pen extended (“There really is a pen there. Yes, it really writes. No, it’s not a joke. You can see it right there. Here, let me show you. See? It writes. No, it’s not a trick. Yes, I’m serious,” and so on; he did eventually take it and then stared at it in wonder as if he still couldn’t believe his eyes). The ink capacity is obviously small, but the pen can be replaced simply by pulling it out and pushing in a new one until you feel it click in place.
-Last and certainly least, the cuticle pusher. I suppose there are people who might find this useful. I just don't happen to be one of those people. It's rounded on the end with a slight curve across the blade, so it's not a good scraper, but it might work well as a small scoop, should you ever want such a thing. The best utility I've found for it is to use it in conjunction with the pen which gives you a better grip and makes it easier to write.
The quality of materials and workmanship are excellent, but what else would you expect from Victorinox? All the implements open smoothly and snap open and closed with a satisfyingly crisp click. My MiniChamp came neatly and securely packaged in Victorinox’s traditional silver cardboard box, and I suspect that those reviewers complaining about poor packaging and low quality materials and workmanship were the victims of unscrupulous sellers or a cheap knockoff (and Amazon really should do a better job policing that sort of thing), because a genuine Victorinox product that’s shoddily made and falls apart as soon as you remove it from the package is pretty much unheard of.
It’s not a substitute for a larger Swiss Army knife or a multitool, but the MiniChamp makes a nice compliment to your everyday carry kit.
The first such feature is a second blade that cuts like a scalpel... Not literally, but this blade is shaped so one can run it across something, while it is flush to the surface. This cutting architecture is very handy for cutting many items. For example, across a piece of paper to disengage it from a pad... The second feature is a small "gut hook" looking cutter. This has been rebranded as an "orange peeler" but again, it is a unique cutting architecture that allows one to go under to cut across an area. This could be used to cut straps, as an awl, and other things where leverage is needed... it is handy! The third such feature is a small spoon like tool that looks like a coke spoon lol. This tool is an excellent pill crusher, divider, it can pry, and even chisel. It has been rebranded as a cuticle pusher or some such nonsense lol.
In addition to these very special tools which are no longer featured in most of the models this model has an excellent pen that uses the same technology as a fischer Pen... these pens are vacuum sealed and can write in any position. A Fischer pen alone will run one at least 30 bucks! why not just buy the whole tool? There is a scissors, and another great multipurpose tool that I am in love with! This tool features a very sturdy small, multi purpose Phillips head, wire stripper, and small bottle opener/hook. There is also a small regular screwdriver with an etched ruler, a file with point and a tweezers.
ALL these items on a keychain sized knife! The build quality on this knife is "Swiss/Victorinox" quality... I cannot think of a tool that has as much to offer at such a small size. Just a fantastic value for keychain level carry. This is my favorite Swiss army knife... with no caveats. I would encourage people to buy it for reasons that stand out among the rest: Who knows how much longer one will be able to get those three "medical" tools mentioned above. We may soon not see those two cutting implements and the pill crusher. And, your getting a very well made pen that usually., by itself cost more than this entire instrument.
If I didn’t EDC my Swiss Champ I would consider this for my keychain. It is convenient, well made and designed for a variety of everyday uses.
The scissors work perfect. The orange peeler can be used for many other cutting tasks. Let’s not forget the small pen. There have been a many situations I’ve been without a regular pen and used my Mini Champ instead and most people that didn’t know about this fantastic little tool are just amazed!
Could go on and on and on but you really just need to buy one, stick it in your pocket and be ready to use it everyday!! You won’t regret buying this baby!
