Care Tips for Swiss Army Knives

The various tools of a swiss army knife are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. With it's unique build Swiss Army Knives require easy but particular care. Use the recommendations below to keep your knife at it's peak functionality.

  • SHARPENING: Use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures.
  • CLEANING: Open and close the blades in warm water several times. When they have dried it is recommended to apply a small drop of oil between the blade, tool shank and the spring or locking mechanism.
  • WARNING: Never put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher.
  • RECOMMENDATION: Swiss Army Knife Oil (Item No.4.3301). FEATURES: (1) neutral odor and taste, (2) highly resistant to aging, (3) good wear and corrosion protection qualities, and (4) Food safe

 Overall a good purchase that we're happy with. An easy and handy multi-tool to have around. We found that the most useful of the tools were the scissors and tweezers. The pen is a little difficult to write with and the pin is a little hard to access but not impossible.

Sometimes I break a nail and need a file, or I need to cut the uneven edges. I carry nail clippers in the car but they fall and get lost. This card has what I need and keeps it all attached neatly. I have the other one with the mini light by the bedside drawer. Sometimes, I just don't want to turn on lights in the middle of the night. The built in light does a great job of lighting the way without turning the night into day in the room. I heartily recommend both models.

I love these, and have given them as gifts many times. Pretty much everyone loves to get one. They are uncommon enough that they are a nice surprise. They are very useful too; I use mine at least once a day. However, I find that they only last about a year before the two plastic halves of the knife begin to separate--especially the section between the knife and the edge of the card. After it separates, it's only a matter of time before that bit snaps off. I don't mind buying a new one each year because they are so damn useful.

Not the first one I’ve bought but this is a daily use kind of thing. Always in my purse. I’ve used the scissors, knife and tweezers the most. The tweezers aren’t a good quality as my previous ones so not sure if it’s just this batch but overall great. Pricey thing though so that’s my only complaint but wouldn’t deter me from buying it.
