You've got me all worked up... Ohhhh man... What do you people want?!
Rikiya Katsukame in "The Power of Those Saved"

This article is about the member of the Shie Hassaikai. For the Meta Liberation Army Grand Commander known as "Re-Destro", see Rikiya Yotsubashi.

Rikiya Katsukame ( (かつ) (かめ) (りき) () Katsukame Rikiya?)[1] is one of the Eight Bullets who works under Overhaul for the Shie Hassaikai.[2]

Appearance[]

Rikiya is a large, tall, and very muscular man.

He wears a black tank top with a stand-by symbol, probably referring to his Quirk. On his back, it's possible to see a metallic seat that he uses to carry other Shie Hassaikai members like Mimic.[3] Rikiya also wears olive drab jeans with an armor-looking belt. He wears a pair of blue socks and orange sneakers as well. He also wears massive gauntlets and knuckledusters on his fists.

Like every other Shie Hassaikai member, Rikiya wears a plague mask. In his case, it is black, with red lines, white eyes, and a golden detail around the neck. It also covers his whole head.

Personality[]

Rikiya seems to require energy to move effectively, as when he charged through the gate at the beginning of the raid, he complained about how it was too early for stuff to happen. After he was temporarily captured and absorbed the energy of people around him, he declared he "felt like a new man".

In general, it seems Rikiya enjoys absorbing energy from others, which may be a byproduct of his Quirk or indicate that Rikiya is usually lazy. He also demonstrates a slightly perverted side during his battle against Nejire Hado, where he suggestively moves his hands at the idea of touching her after his Trigger is activated.

History[]

Little is known about his past, but at some point, he met Overhaul and became his obedient friend. Later, Kai recruited him into the Shie Hassaikai.[4]

Synopsis[]

Shie Hassaikai Arc[]

When the Raid Team, consisting of ProHeroes and Police Force, was about to enter the Yakuza stronghold. Rikiya broke through the front gate and began to attack them.

Rikiya fought Ryukyu, along with her interns, Nejire Chan, Uravity, and Froppy. He was defeated and restrained.

Rikiya Katsukame is sent to prison

Rikiya is arrested.

He escaped, using a Trigger drug on his Quirk, and absorbed the vitality from the police and heroes to become stronger, break the bindings, and continue fighting. Himiko Toga, in the form of Deku, tricks the heroes into sending Rikiya crashing down to the underground tunnel where his boss is fighting. Kai uses his Quirk to fuse with Rikiya, becoming a monstrous amalgam of flesh to fight Deku. After an intense battle, Eri uses her Quirk to defuse him from Overhaul, and he is arrested along with the rest of the Hassaikai.[5]

Abilities[]

Ryukyu Squad vs

Having been enhanced with the Trigger drug, Rikiya can much more effectively hold his own against a top Pro Hero such as Ryukyu.

Overall Abilities: Being an Eight Bullets member of the Shie Hassaikai, Rikiya is formidable. While he commonly overwhelms his opponents with his hulking size and great strength, Rikiya also uses his Quirk, Energy Suck, to absorb the stamina of his adversaries, simultaneously strengthening himself and weakening his opponents. Rikiya's overall capabilities make him a rather dangerous combatant who can singlehandedly contend with foes that outnumber him.

During the Shie Hassaikai Raid, Rikiya was the first line of defense to take on the raiding team of police officers and Pro Heroes. After incapacitating two police officers, he faced off against Ryukyu, at the time No. 9 Pro Hero, Nejire of U.A.'s Big 3, Tsuyu, and Ochaco, who managed to subdue the Eight Bullets member eventually. While detained, however, Rikiya's Quirk automatically activated, revealing that, before his battle against the Ryukyu Squad, Rikiya had taken a dose of the Quirk-enhancing drug, Trigger.

Under the effects of Trigger, Rikiya can absorb the vitality of nearby people through inhalation alone, without having to make physical contact with them. With this boost in power, Rikiya regained consciousness, reinvigorated, broke free from his restraints, and was able to fight against the Ryukyu Squad better than he did compared to the beginning of their bout for 20 minutes, especially since Nejire, Tsuyu, and Ochaco were stamina-drained due to Rikiya's Quirk. It was only when the effects of the Trigger drug wore off that Rikiya was defeated by the weakened Ryukyu Squad's final, combined assault.

  • Enhanced Strength: Even without activating his Quirk, Rikiya exhibits enhanced physical strength, befitting his massive build. On two separate occasions, he effortlessly smashed through a wall and a locked metal gate, knocking two police officers into the air, and casually damaged the jamb while readying his next punch.
  • Enhanced Durability: Rikiya has shown to be reasonably durable, as he was still conscious after being temporarily subdued by the Ryukyu Squad, much to the shock of Ryukyu herself, as she believed she had rendered Rikiya unconscious. After being resuscitated due to the Trigger drug, Rikiya was able to shrug off energy blasts from Nejire, although Nejire had some of her stamina absorbed by Rikiya at the moment, resulting in the heroine producing weaker bursts.

Quirk[]

Vitality Stealing

Rikiya uses his Quirk; Energy Suck.

Energy Suck ( (かつ) (りょく) (きゅう) (しゅう) Katsuryoku Kyūshū?): Rikiya's Quirk allows him to siphon away other people's stamina by inhaling their strength away from them. He can use the stolen stamina to increase his size and strength greatly. To use his Quirk, Rikiya needs to be touching the target.

When enhanced by Trigger, Rikiya does not have to be touching his target.[1]

Overhaul[]

They have not been seen interacting with each other. However, it was revealed that Rikiya started out as Overhaul's obedient friend and younger-brother-like figure.[4]

Trivia[]

  • Rikiya's surname contains the kanji for "life" ( (かつ) katsu?), "bottle, jar, vial" ( (かめ) kame?), while his given name contains the ones for "strength, power, force" ( (りき) riki?) and "to be" ( () ya?). They collectively refer to his Quirk, that allows him to view other individuals as "bottles" of "life force" that he can absorb to "become stronger".
  • Rikiya seems to represent a corruption of the third tenet of the real eight precepts of Buddhism: abstain from sexual activity.
  • Rikiya's English voice actor, Chris Guerrero, also voices Kenji Tsuragamae.
  • Rikiya is currently the only masked member of the Shie Hassaikai whose face hasn't been shown or partially exposed in any way.
    • Rikiya's appearance and design with his mask bear strong resemblance to the DC villain Bane.
  • Rikiya shares his first name with Rikiya Yotsubashi, otherwise known as Re-Destro, and with the Instant Villain Rikiya Eno.
