Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is clean sunscreen different from natural or organic sun care?
There is no legal definition for what makes a sunscreen product 'clean'. But, at Credo Beauty, all of our products follow The Credo Clean Standard™ which avoids over 2700 potentially harmful ingredients. It's also important to note that the term 'natural' can be misleading as there is also no clear definition for what makes a product 'natural'. However, natural sun care products generally use natural or naturally derived ingredients. When it comes to organic sun care products, these must adhere to strict standards set by the USDA Organic program, ensuring that they are made with organic ingredients and follow specific regulations for farming and manufacturing processes.
  • How does clean sunscreen differ from regular sun care?
Because of our industry-leading standards and thorough vetting process, we know that the clean products we carry are effective, safer, and more sustainable than regular suncare products. They all meet The Credo Clean Standard™ and therefore don’t contain ingredients linked to potential negative health or environmental effects. With additional sustainability and packaging requirements in place, we also aim to reduce the environmental impact of the industry.
  • What are the benefits of using clean sunscreen?
Using a clean face sunscreen from Credo Beauty comes with tons of benefits. Not only are the ingredients used cleaner, safer, and gentler on your skin, but they’re also safer for the planet. Clean natural sunblock is made from ingredients that aren’t harmful to coral reefs, so you can stay safe in the sun and the ocean without worrying about impacting ecosystems and the environment.
  • How can I make sure that the sun care products I am using are truly clean?
To ensure that the sun care products you are using are truly clean, look for certifications such as EWG Verified, USDA Organic, and Cruelty-Free labels. It's also important to check for mineral-based active ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, instead of chemical ones. Avoid harmful ingredients like oxybenzone, octinoxate, and avobenzone. At Credo Beauty, we carefully select all of our sun care products to meet The Credo Clean Standard™, ensuring they are safe for both your skin and the environment. So when you shop with us, you can trust that you are making a clean and ethical choice for your sun protection needs.
  • How often should I reapply clean sunscreen?
When it comes to how often you should reapply broad spectrum sunscreen you should always follow the instructions on the product label, as each sunscreen product can vary depending on their protection factor and the type of product they are. Generally speaking, you should reapply clean sunscreen for face or body coverage around every two hours. However, if you go swimming or sweat heavily, you should reapply sunscreen after this as well, as recommended by dermatologists. Even water-resistant sunscreen should be reapplied after swimming or being in the water for a certain amount of time. You should always ensure to reapply your sunscreen regularly, as this ensures it properly protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
  • How does clean sunscreen benefit the environment?
At Credo Beauty, we impose various sustainability and packaging requirements on our brands to help lessen the environmental impact of the beauty industry. So when you shop with us, you’re already doing your bit for the planet. Additionally, our clean SPF products are a more sustainable option because they are free from ingredients, such as oxybenzone, that are known to be harmful to coral reefs and marine life. Instead of using these harsh chemicals, they use reef-safe ingredients such as zinc oxide that don’t disrupt the growth of coral reefs or cause bleaching.
  • Can I use clean sunscreen with other skin care or makeup products?
Yes, you can use clean face sunscreen with other skin care and makeup products. Natural SPF for the face should be used after your serums and moisturizer, but before you apply any makeup products. You should opt for a lightweight, oil-free formula to ensure your sunscreen doesn’t interfere with makeup application, but a tinted sunscreen is a great option if you don’t often wear makeup but want to give your skin a subtle tint. If you wear makeup you’ll still need to reapply facial sunscreen throughout the day to reduce your exposure to UV radiation. Using a mineral powder sunscreen in these situations will allow you to touch up your sunscreen without disrupting your makeup and ensure you stay protected throughout the day.
