Blackberries lend a pleasing sweet and tart flavor, and pretty color, to this nonalcoholic highball — and orgeat (a rich, almondy syrup) gives it some depth. Topped off with sparkling coconut water, it’s bright and refreshing. —Abigail Gullo

All of the orgeat recipes that I have found indicate that orgeat has vodka, so this drink is not necessarily non-alcoholic.

Orgeat syrup is a sweet syrup made from almonds, sugar, and rose water or orange flower water. Monin and Torani are two brands commercially available and do not contain alchohol. In France they mix it with water or seltzer for kids.

Orgeat Orgeat syrup is a sweet syrup made from almonds, sugar, and rose water or orange flower water. It was originally made with a barley-almond blend. It has a pronounced almond taste and is used to flavor many cocktails. Orgeat syrup is an important ingredient in the Mai Tai and many Tiki drinks.

This is a delicious mocktail! I made my own 5-minute orgeat “cheat” from a YouTube recipe calling for almond milk, sugar, almond extract and orange flower water. No alcohol needed!

I made this as directed, it was tasty but didn’t have the vibrant color as pictured. Also the sparkling coconut caused my mini shaker’s lid to fly off. This may not be an issue with a larger shaker. On my second go I muddled the blackberries first and shook all the ingredients minus the sparkling water. I strained the mix over ice, then topped off with the sparkling water, with a good result!

The closest thing I could find to “sparkling coconut water” at our grocery store was LaCroix sparkling water with coconut flavoring. Is that what the recipe means? Or does someone carbonate actual coconut water? What have you all been using?

I am wondering the same thing. what did you end up using and how was it?

I found orgeat on Amazon that doesn't have any alcohol

Vodka is optional in this one: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1015317-homemade-orgeat-syrup

This is very surprising, but here's a DYI ingredient list from Serious Eats:
Ingredients
2 cups raw almonds, sliced or chopped
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon orange flower water
1 ounce vodka
But if you are buying orgeat, you can just read the label.
