It’s hard to beat the natural sweetness, unique tartness and stunning color of hibiscus, but this fizzy drink can be modified with any chilled tea. Don't turn away at the mention of apple cider vinegar: It’s decidedly tame. But if you’re into the aggressive sourness of vinegar, feel free to add more.

I enjoyed this one, but felt it was missing some complexity. I added some angostora bitters, which helped immensely. Will definitely be making this again.

My friend introduced me to a delicious, minimalist version of this drink and I recommend trying it before adding extra ingredients. It's easier and has zero calories. Just pour equal parts chilled hibiscus tea and sparkling water into glass and enjoy. I don't even add ice. The tea I particularly recommend is Republic of Tea's hibiscus sangria iced tea, created with bits of dry fruit in its blend.

thought there was a bit much vinegar as written. suggest starting with half and adjusting to taste.

Made the hibiscus drink base in bulk and brought to a party with soda water on the side for assembly. I added one shake of angostura bitters per serving to the base. Ratio of agave and vinegar was perfect and I brewed the hibiscus sun tea style to make sure there was no bitterness. Note to use glasses on the smaller side or use more base so the drink isn’t too watered down by the soda water.

Is soda water the same thing as plain seltzer? Or is it club soda? Or is it neither one of these?

Refreshing! Followed some of the other commenters' recommendations and added a dash of angostura bitters. Will make again!

I add sliced fresh or frozen ginger root as well as any kind of citrus peel to my hibiscus tea, which I steep for hours to a full day and then sweeten with stevia and refrigerate, for use as the base in a cold lemon, lime or ginger seltzer fizz. Sometimes I add gin :)

My daughter and I have started drinking this everyday, we brew a big batch of tea and keep it in the fridge, then just a splash of vinegar and soda water from the soda stream, no honey needed. She calls it kombucha. She’s 2.

I have made hibiscus tea in various ways and hoped this recipe would give me a guide for the tea. I use loose hibiscus and I would like to know ratios of tea to water and steep times. This drink sounds nice but skips an important step.

A cafe I really like also adds dried persian limes which adds that complexity

This is my go to mocktail. I make it as directed. For the soda water, I love the Good & Gather (Target brand) Raspberry Hibiscus sparkling water.

I'm not a fan of drinking vinegar. Tried it with just a little but couldn't taste until there was enough there for me not to like. So, the next night, I tried it with lemon and that was just OK. Then the NEXT night, I used unsweetened cranberry juice as the souring agent. Pretty good! I put in just slightly less than the amount of tea. I recommend. It must be the REALLY unsweetened version like they sell in health food stores or Ocean Spray actually makes a version called "Pure".

I liked the hibiscus tea better with just agave and vinegar before adding any soda water. It’s richer in flavor and adding ice cubs helps dilute it

For me, this drink was too sour. I added lemonade to sweeten. Also, I would add a carbonated beverage for more fizz.

Delicious! I used Strawberry Rosé living vinegar from Acid League, Hibiscus Berry tea and honey: it was a perfect sweet/tart mix in the drink.

My tea was already sweetened with agave & I used a lemon spiked seltzer…and added a shot of vodka. Delish!

Great and refreshing. I made this with the tea left over from Tejal Rao's hibiscus quesadillas. The apple cider vinegar is a tasty addition that makes this drink feel booze adjacent.
