Dragon’s Dogma 2 is well known to have some optimization issues on console and PC, so we thought we’d put together a quick guide so that you can get the most out of your device of choice when playing. While a Dragon’s Dogma 2 performance patch is on the way, with a locked 30fps vs unlocked framerate mode to be added soon, here are a few thing you can do on your console or PC that will give you a tad bit better experience, and hopefully smooth out gameplay just a little bit.
On PlayStation 5, Dragon’s Dogma 2 would greatly benefit from turning on your console options. To smooth out performance and get it running as smoothly as possible we recommend that you ensure that variable refresh rate, 120 Hz Output, and ALLM are all turned on, should your television support it. To do this on PlayStation 5, go to the home menu and then navigate to settings. Select Video Output and scroll down to VRR. There you can turn VRR on as well as 120 Hz, and auto low latency mode. This should always be left on regardless of the game you’re playing as it’ll often smooth out performance issues, or unlock new options in titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that you otherwise wouldn’t have. In addition, be sure you select HDR should your television support it for the best-looking visuals possible on all your PlayStation 5 games.
On Xbox Series X, you’ll want to start by ensuring that your console settings are set up correctly. To do this, go up to settings from your Xbox dashboard. Then, under general go to TV & Display Options. Under Advanced, go to video mode, and if your TV supports it select, Allow auto low-latency mode, and also set Variable Refresh Rate to On. In addition, select HDR10, HDR , and Dolby Vision for Gaming should your television support it.
Once these have been selected, you can start your game. While this won’t do a ton given the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is very limited in terms of in-game options, it may help a bit with smoothing out gameplay.
And on Xbox Series S, there also aren’t any in-game options to adjust, but you can still turn on 120hz mode and Variable Refresh Rate on your Xbox console should your TV support it. To do this, go up to settings from your Xbox dashboard. Then, under general to to TV & Display Options. Under Advanced, go to video mode, and if your TV supports it select, Allow auto low-latency mode, and also set Variable Refresh Rate to On. In addition, select HDR10, HDR , and Dolby Vision for Gaming should your television support it.
With all of these options selected, Dragon’s Dogma should look better on your television, and offer a smoother gameplay experience as you play. Even if there are no additional in-game options.
On PC our performance review recommends that you use DLSS Balanced or higher to ensure that you’re getting the best gameplay experience possible should your PC not have the overhead needed to run the game smoothly. And most PCs struggle at points. If you have an AMD Graphics Card, FSR3 Balanced will likely be your best choice. Because of only minor improvements with Ray Traced Global Illumination, it’s actually recommended that you opt to turn it off as it doesn’t add a ton to a scene and is currently a very expensive effect in terms of PC performance, meaning it’s probably not worth using it for most players. Currently, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is very CPU limited meaning DLSS or FSR are recommended at a bare minimum.
And those are our recommended settings for Dragon’s Dogma 2. Check out our full wiki over at IGN.com/wikis for tips on how to crush it. And of course, for more on all things gaming keep it here on IGN.
