Some events just leave you buzzing 🐝
That's how I felt at last night's AI startup event in Palo Alto called Llama Lounge hosted by Jeremiah Owyang. It was a full house, with a wait list, and a line at the door. Felt like it was Friday night at the club but instead I'm twice as old and getting pitched by a dozen AI startup founders. Times change! 😎
I enjoyed stopping by these booths and thinking about how AI will start to change our behaviors at work and home.
Omniscience: Generate an entire book from a prompt!
Aomni: Sales sidekick for account research - every B2B AE needs this!
Miri: 24/7 health and wellness coaching supported by real experts
Plus, I'm still reeling from seeing so many of my old colleagues who welcomed me into my first tech job almost 15 years ago at Altimeter Group, as well as Minh Do who I met in our lives before tech when we were both working in Vietnam!
👋 Andrew Jones, Brian Solis, Charlene Li, Julie Viola
Thanks Jeremiah Owyang for creating such a great vibe for old and new friends to meet and learn.

Hi fellow founders, what's your secret to great IRL events that actually makes you feel energized?
Last night's I went to a super packed holiday mixer. Met amazing engineers, consultants, and even better, fellow founders! We swapped stories, shared challenges, and I left feeling energized by their inspiring journey.
While making new friends is great, personally, nothing beats deeper connections with other founders. That's why we're launching a regular AI founder meetup, and I'm thinking of making it smaller, more curated, and focused on meaningful conversations, not pitching!
Think engineers and consultants need not apply. This is a founder-only space. We'll be hand-picking attendees based on shared interests and experiences.
What's your view on curated smaller events vs bigger mixer? Let me know , and if this resonates, sign up here for our Jan events: https://lu.ma/71tpaudy#startupfounders#aicommunity#startupevents#sfevents

When? Make sure to get your submission in ASAP to get a chance to take part in the first round of the program!
There are 100s of AI events in the Bay every week - and one thing was common.
Most (not all!) of them discuss tech advancements or general networking but were missing depth on other fronts.
Given how rapidly, this space is changing, Shipra Agarwal Kanoria and I were thinking of getting a bunch of folks together to go beyond (think of this as a monthly supper club where we learn and grow together!)
Join us for an inaugural *AI Horizons* roundtable with The Product Folks and WestBridge Capital to discuss how to think about responsible GenAI deployment and building agentic AI systems.
🗓 30-05-2024
📬 Invite-Only Event
Takeaways from this event :
✨ Exclusive Insights: Share and learn best GenAI practices from fellow builders and operators
✨ Network with other GenAI builders: No, not exchanging LinkedIn links. Rather meet and connect with fellow builders, operators, and founders who are at the forefront of GenAI innovation.
✨ Forward-Thinking Strategies: Learn about the latest approaches on building successful products
Just setting expectations: These will be *tiny* gatherings so we can go deeper on the conversations
Let me know what you think, small form in the comments in case you want to join in :)
Yesterday Sharbani Dhar, Ben Hogan and myself were on the Aussie Founders Club meetup panel. Thanks to the great host and facilitation by Megan Luttrell, we discussed so many topics and audience questions around #AI - and how it can help startups and founders create an unfair advantage.
My recommendations for all founders (in this order):
1. Build literacy and understanding of the fundamental concepts around Generative AI - at a high level you need to know the strengths and limitations of this tech (like any tech).
2. Then, identify opportunities and problems to solve, focusing on the end user/customer. This is Design Thinking 101. Don't think solution first then go looking for a problem it can solve!
3. Finally, with your understanding of the basics and identification of a possible opportunity to solve, you are in a good position to discuss with possible vendors (or do it yourself) solutions to those problems.
Reach out to us at Academy Xi as we have training and workshops on Design Thinking and AI fundamentals suited to any business function or industry.

Today's the day! Our panel on how to use AI as an unfair advantage for growth in your startup is today with Aussie Founders Club
There are still spots left for what is always a good night!
Come join us tonight and get the opportunity to ask our panel of AI experts the questions your grappling with in your own growth journey.
I'm about to head over to meetup to ask the attendees what they'd like to know and we will make time for Q&A beyond this.
Thank you EverestEngineering for getting behind these meetups!

What's In It For Me?- That's the question that spurs almost all human action. Given I am writing this post to motivate you, the reader, to participate in this hackathon below, I am going to try and answer this question for you. If you fall in any of the following groups, the hackathon is for you. Below a distilled articulation for "What's In It For Me?" (WIIFM).
· I am a professional hackathoner: WIIFM- The prize money, what else? 🙂 (oh, and the recognition!)
· I am thinking of quitting my job to start-up but am not sure of the idea: WIIFM- There's no way you have not thought of Gen AI, right? Some feedback before you jump onto (or not) the bandwagon will not hurt.
· I am thinking of quitting my job to start-up and I know I am building in AI: WIIFM- Come get some feedback, and perhaps some funding if there is meeting of the minds.
· I love my job. In fact, I love any job and won't be a founder ever: WIIFM- The sound of Ka-ching on the side can only be music to your ears, right? We are not looking for the winner of the hackathon to quit their jobs and change the course of human history by building a game-changing company. Come have some fun.
· I am already working on an idea in AI: WIIFM- This is the quickest way to measure yourself against what and how others are building. Plus some feedback and (in)validation from us, for what it's worth.
In short, I am hard pressed to think of who you have to be to not find some value in participating in the hackathon.
While we have a portfolio of AI cos. spanning voice, ecom workflow automation, photo editing automation, natural language chatbots for conversion and support, we are always looking to meet more talent building in or flirting with AI. (In case you were wondering the 'WIIFM for me'.)
