    The difference between an ok sales rep and a REALLY good one? It’s deep domain expertise. Typically what happens in a really good sales rep’s workflow is before they talk to a customer they will spend a ton of time learning everything they can about a customer. A good seller should be like a local guide for the buyer. To be an effective local guide, you need to know what you're talking about. You should be more knowledgeable about a market than the actual buyer, so you've got to upskill yourself constantly; learning not only about the market but also about the customer themselves. What problem are they facing? What are they trying to do? Why are they talking to you in the first place? It’s a ton of data and research for a typical sales rep to ingest. Some reps spend up to 5 hours a day on research, and most of it is really tedious work, Googling or going to Crunchbase, Reddit, Twitter… all sorts of different data sources. At Aomni, we automate this process 100%. We're not gonna tell the sales rep exactly what to say or exactly what to do. I think that's the job of a sales rep. That's where the human aspect comes in, to actually build that connection. We focus on automating away all the tedious work, so the sales rep can focus on the one place where having human intelligence adds real value — the problem solving part.

    Fascinating stat from the RAIN Group about how B2B sellers and buyers are on totally different pages: While 78% of sellers don't find communicating value to be challenging, buyers disagree. 2 out of 3 buyers say that sellers are ineffective at communicating value.     Google and Yahoo changing their email policies to punish senders with high spam rates is obviously disruptive for the majority of sellers and sales tech companies. But it's the future we've been building for all along at Aomni I mentioned the stat from HubSpot the other day saying that 40% of sellers reported that email is their most effective sales channel. Going forward, anyone who prospects over email will have to put much more thought into writing a personalized, relevant message. As much as I love products like Clay, Luna and others, I think they're going to have to make some adjustments philosophically if they're going to remain relevant for sellers in the new normal. Don't get me wrong, data enrichment and simple research automations will always be useful. But in a time when the bar to stand out to buyers is only getting higher, shallow personalizations of the kind that most software performs just won't cut it. I wouldn't be surprised if a year from now, the average seller is booking the same number of meetings through email as before. Just instead of sending 100 emails with a 4% response rate, they'll send 40 emails with a 10% response rate. Obviously I'm biased, but I think that in a world where the best email prospecting results come from sending higher-quality emails, tools like ours stand out. Our vision for the future is one where sales is once again about people and problem-solving, not lever-pulling.
