It's not only about stopping the dominance and abusive use of personal data from Big Tech, but most importantly about value and agency, giving us greater control over our personal data. The Ethical Commerce Alliance (ECA), together with MyData Global and The Coalition for Online Data Empowerment (CODE), has proudly co-authored the "Open Letter on Data Portability Compliance under the DMA" addressed to Margrethe Vestager, the Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Competition at the European Commission. Big tech (Meta, TikTok, Amazon, Google etc ) have failed the test of the recently passed Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA’s mandate for a Free, Continuous and Real Time data portability has not been met. Why does it matter? 👉 Empowers us (as consumers and content creators) by giving us greater control over our personal data, allowing us to freely and easily transfer it out of Amazon, Google, Instagram, Tiktok etc..into wherever we want, including our favourite and trusted local shops and brands, personal data stores and AIs of our choice... 👉 Fosters a fairer competition landscape in Retail. Imagine that as the owner of a small shop, your trusted customers could easily share with you some of the relevant activity from their social media, orders from Amazon etc… This would significantly help you connect with them in new ways, reward them for engagement and support, etc.. 👉 Stimulates innovation: a whole new category of products and services will be created driving further economic growth in the digital age. THIS IS A BIG DEAL that will ripple through the AdTech & MarTech ecosystems. Google plans to open source its PAIR identity tool in collaboration with the IAB Tech Lab to promote industry-wide adoption of privacy-centric solutions. If you are not familiar PAIR (Publisher Advertiser Identity Reconciliation) combines first-party data from publishers and advertisers for privacy-centric ad campaigns without cookies or device IDs (and it integrated with LiveRamp too), enabling consolidation and consistency with first-party-data media-activation.  Currently live with NBCUniversal and soon coming to The Walt Disney Company through direct integration with its DRAX platform. Advertisers using PAIR can reach high-intent audiences effectively while respecting privacy expectations and each party involved maintains full data ownership and control; data pooling is prohibited. 1)       NBCUniversal sees benefits in using PAIR for increased accuracy, scale, and performance, shifting from third-party to first-party data. 2)       Advertisers like Citi and Albertsons are already benefiting from the PAIR partnership with NBCUniversal. 3)       Brands appreciate the strength of first-party data-based audiences and see PAIR as a solution to the fragmented ecosystem, enabling more performant marketing. #Privacy #AdTech #Identity #BFD #FirstPartyData https://lnkd.in/eAZnvb7w

Interesting insights into OpenAI's publisher partnerships from a leaked presentation: 1. Only for "select, high-quality editorial partners." 2. Enhanced display of information from partners. 3. Fixed payment for access, and variable payment based on usage. Data suggests that generative search tools can answer a user's question 75% of the time with no need to visit a website. Superb POV on the future of search, how AI will disrupt search and how Google’s own Gemini (Ai platform) is disrupting Google itself… Are we more rapidly moving towards the reality imagined and articulated below by Google’s ex CTO Craig Silverstein back in 2003..no that’s not a typo..20 years ago: “When search grows up, it will look like Star Trek: you talk into the air (“Computer! What’s the situation down on the planet?”) and the computer processes your question, figures out its context, figures out what response you’re looking for, searches a giant database in who-knows-how-many languages, translates/analyses/summarises all the results, and presents them back to you in a pleasant voice. This analysis is interesting, but it lacks judgment based on data analysis and profit margin calculation. Currently, manufacturers of 6DOF VR all-in-one headsets are selling each unit at a loss, yes, you heard it right, they are incurring significant losses. One company in the industry expanded from 400 employees to 2000, then downsized to 200 after experiencing two years of severe loss-making investments, and now they are focusing on the B2B market. Meta's quarterly losses even exceed hardware sales by tenfold. Continuing this kind of business model is simply burning investors' money. Products like Oculus Go, with a form factor of 3DOF all-in-one headsets, have completely different use cases from products like Quest, which are 6DOF all-in-one headsets. This market does not have consumer users; it focuses on dozens of application scenarios such as education, training, healthcare, and entertainment. These scenarios demand customized products with relatively lower performance requirements. They need simple deployment and user-friendly operation. What's especially important for B2B industries is that manufacturers can develop different functions based on different scenarios and software to meet various customer needs. Moreover, over the past few years, tens of thousands of software and hardware manufacturers, content providers, and integrators have benefited from these 3DOF scenarios. The fact that the Google AI Overview appears most often in Healthcare (63% of queries) to me is very troubling! 🙀 I'm a numbers' girl so here are some important numbers: - 86% of Americans have used online platforms for medical advice in the past year instead of consulting a doctor. - 1 in 4 Gen Zers have used TikTok for medical advice in the past year instead of consulting a doctor. - 1 in 8 Americans trust ChatGPT’s medical advice over a doctor’s. I'm not going to re-share here some of the horrific results that were rendered on this front since the launch, but it's fair to say Google should tread VERY CAREFULLY. Because like it or not, it does have an ethical and social responsibility with regards to endangering health and safety - when you control such a massive share of the search landscape, you cannot suddenly disassociate yourself from the impact and just say it's all about growing queries and the democracy of results now! #googleAI #socialresponsibility
