The Sh-Sh-Sh-Shinso[]

Volume 35 Hitoshi Shinso

He's wearing a hero costume now. In normal times, he'd already be a second-year student who'd completed his transfer into the Hero Course. That's why he had the costume made and ready to go. It's mostly black, so it's perfect for not attracting attention. In truth, he was strongly influenced by Aizawa. There was actually a sneak peek of Shinso's costume at the art exhibition, though the details might've changed a bit since that version.

Izuku: "So cool! You look like a ninja!"
Denki: "Show us a Rasengan! C'mon! Rasengan! Do it!"

-The author sucks at drawing chibi characters.

The "Let Me Practice Drawing Chibi Characters" Corner[]

Volume 35 Dabi and Katsuki

Nice Pose

Now that Dabi's hair is white, I feel like I have a tough time making his hair visually distinct from Katsuki's!

Katsuki: "Quit stealing my look."
Dabi: "When you go out and about, does everyone in town have a completely unique hairstyle? Hmm? Let's leave it at that."

-The author seriously sucks at drawing chibi characters.

Tajima and Mihaera[]

The Incidental New Costume of the Protagonist[]

Volume 35 Costume Zeta

Costume Zeta
Volumes 1 to 5: Alpha
Volumes 6 to 11: Beta
Volume 12 to 18: Gamma
Volumes 19 to 31: Delta
Volumes 32 to 34: Epsilon

Whenever new elements are added or removed, the costume gets a new code name.

In a way, the costumes track the arc of Deku's progress.

Since materials and time are precious resources, Hatsume made this one for him.

Dark green, practically black

The New Costume[]

Volume 35 Dabi Profile

Made to be super-duper heat resistant.

This is a pure white costume like traditional Japanese burial clothes, imbued solely with Dabi's burning grudge against his father. Although Detnerat isn't operating at the moment, the company's data was shared with Skeptic (of Feel Good Inc.), so even in the current environment, the villains can effectively make use of Detnerat's product development tech.

The cities are largely evacuated, so the villains can easily access abandoned workshops here and there. All they have to do is hack the systems and start producing their items.

It sure is fortunate that they brought Skeptic along.

Neito Monoma[]

Volume 35 Neito Monoma

Monoma plays a key role and was able to manipulate the state of battle, but that doesn't exactly make him the main behind the curtain or the mastermind, as he phrases it.

The Unsung Hero Trio[]

Volume 35 Construction Team Profile

All the crazy mechanisms and facilities like Troy are just making use of systems and equipment that always existed at U.A. Sure, it all had to come together on a tight, breakneck schedule, but they made it happen thanks to the principal's planning skills, Power Loader's abilities to dig, excavate, and level the ground, Cementoss's talents for construction and transporting materials, and a labor force provided by Ectoplasm's clones, including the giant one.

Behind the Production
From the start, I introduced these guys with the vague notion that, down the road, they'd eventually renovate the entire school. In my ideas notebook back then, I had something about them somehow transforming U.A. into a giant robot. Crazy stuff that could only come from the mind of someone well versed in the Sunrise studio anime catalog. Part of me wanted to try drawing that.

"Whoa! Looks wimpy."

Oraco Urachaka[]

Volume 35 Ochaco Uraraka

Himiko Toga's Items: Bloodsucking Rundown[]

Volume 35 Himiko Costume Profile

Did you notice the new and improved Vampire Neck? The fangs can transform into syringes, and they're also equipped with hover-jet functionality. What an unhinged device.

Just as in Dabi's case, they misappropriated Detnerat's extensive data to create this.

Katsuki's Costume[]

Volume 35 Katsuki Bakugo

A change to Katsuki's costume!
Something new is attached to his shoulder parts. Unlike Deku, who updates his costume like it's going out of style, this guy hadn't really seen any big changes besides the winter costume until now. But here we go - an actual update - because Katsuki's state of mind has changed too.

Chapter 350 Explanation[]

Volume 35 Explanation

Page 180, panels 2 and 3

It might be hard to tell from the visuals, but Toya got into an argument with Haruaki Sun-Sun and unleashed some fire before fleeing the facility. His weakened flames didn't burn the place to the ground though. The fire was put out easily enough.

Fearing that his wicked deeds would be exposed, the doctor blamed Haruaki Sun-Sun for accidentally starting the fire, thus protecting the facility's dark secret.

Since no one died and the story didn't make the news, heroes and the authorities were unfortunately none the wiser about the doctor's hidden atrocities. Maybe if the fire had been a bigger deal, the world wouldn't have ended up in its current state. This was an ironic crossroads, in a way.

Horikoshi's Comments[]

Volume 35 Horikoshi's Comments

The Contribution:
I've been blessed with another piece of art from Vigilantes artist Betten Sensei! The Vigilantes story has concluded, and volume 15 - the final one - came out at the same time as this book (in Japan)!

This is probably the last art contribution from Betten Sensei, so turn the page to find out which character he drew for us!!

Minoru: "The final one? It's gotta be me!! I'm the perfect endocarp for this art series!!"

The Afterword:
I know I'm the one who drew it, but Shigaraki's fingers-a-plenty attack is seriously creepy. When I saw it in the magazine, I made an involuntary "Yechh!" sound. Still, it's fun seeing it emerge from my pen, in the moment. From the next volume on, we'll get to see what the various characters are up to, along with the fierce battles they're waging!

Look forward to it! Plus Ultra!!

Tribute by Betten Court[]

Volume 35 Tribute by Betten Court

Congratulations on MHA volume 35 and the Hero Fes event!!

I had so much fun getting the chance to draw MHA characters, and if called upon, I'd be thrilled to do it again!! (LOL) -Betten
