Bee☆Pop[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Bee☆Pop Profile
Koichi's the type who never takes on any more responsibility than he can handle, so he pretty much never finds himself in a situation where he can't back off and beat a quick retreat. I found myself wondering, "What sort of enemy would he force himself to actually confront?"...And voila - the answer was "Oh, duh. Pop!" She's the only one who fits the bill...

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

I wanted to come up with a number of more intricate designs, but we settled on this during a talk about production costs... Whereas her previous costume was leather or perhaps rubber, this one is supposed to be enamel.

Unknown[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Column Unknown
Needless to say, this is the big bad you-know-who from the main MHA story. When you start digging and finding out the atrocities he's committed, he ascends to this level of unspeakable evil, like some sort of wicked god or mythical monster. That was the idea here.

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

Drawing him didn't take that much time and effort, but searching for the spot where he first appeared in MHA sure did. Can someone please compile a list where each character made their debut? Right down to volume/page/panel? (LOL)

Soga: The Update[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Soga Kugisaki Profile
  • Name: Soga Kugisaki
  • Birthday: 11/8
  • Height: 182 CM
  • Favorite Thing: Nothing
  • Quirk: Spike
This guy never found himself able to walk the straight and narrow, so he was in a perpetual grumpy mood. But he calmed down a little once Master trusted him enough to take on odd jobs. That's the story. Actually, he takes on the role of "Master's disciple" more seriously than anyone.

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

Dang, his face has really changed since his first appearance in the story. But that's just how manga is sometimes! Or so I tell myself as I draw.

Moyuru & Rapt: The Update[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Moyuru Tochi and Rapt Tokage Profile
  • Name: Moyuru Tochi
  • Birthday: 4/9
  • Height: 185 CM
  • Favorite Things: Motorcycles, Ramen
  • Quirk: Flame

  • Name: Rapt Tokage
  • Birthday: 7/15
  • Height: 165 CM
  • Favorite Things: Manga, Video Games
  • Quirk: Lizard
Moyuru has a decent amount of common sense, but he prioritizes his friendships. Rapt, on the other hand, is an idiot who can't tell good from bad, but he tends to do what his friends tell him. That's why these two follow Soga around and exist in a sort of moral gray zone.

Once they're on Team Protagonist, they provide excellent reactions and commentary, making them priceless assets.

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

Thank goodness Moyu is so easy to draw. What does he do with that flame on his head when he has to visit a gas station? Rapt always has that distinct "Gya ha" laugh for an extra bit of characterization, but I mostly forgot about that throughout this book.

Endeavor[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Column Endeavor
The number two hero follows in the wake of the number one, All Might, but I tried to be conscious of the different elements Endeavor brings to the table. That is to say, he's got a way more aggressive personality, and his battle strategies actually involve setup and multiple steps.

All Might is the undisputed strongest, though an airhead, and is pursued doggedly by Endeavour, who's a clever hothead. That's the gist I'm going for.

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

Endeavor's costume seems a little looser in the main series, but in Vigilantes, I was sure to draw it nice and skintight. The reason being...that's how I wanted it!

Endeavor's Flaming Sidekickers[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Column Flaming Sidekickers
At first, I assumed that all four of these guys would have fire-blasting Quirks, but then Horikoshi Sensei informed me that's not the case for Kido and Onima, so I scrambled to equip them with fiery support items. We still don't know the horse guy's name, but I'm already a fan.

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

It's tough for me to draw existing characters who've only appeared in smallish panels in the main series. In those cases, I have no choice but to screw up my courage and say "These are the Vigilantes versions. Deal with it." (LOL)

For unrelated reasons, Burnin is tough for me. Though I still like her.

The Compass Kid[]

Volume 10 (Vigilantes) Hokuto Hario Profile
  • Name: Hokuto Hario
  • Birthday: 9/13
  • Height: 189 CM
  • Favorite Thing: His Family
  • Quirk: Pointer
The idea with this guy was that he's the sort of lackluster hero Koichi might've turned into. I'm grateful that so many readers loved him.

—Hideyuki Furuhashi

My early designs portrayed him as a dude in his fifties, but that wasn't what Furuhashi-san was going for, so I went back to the drawing board and made him in his thirties instead. As a keyword, "oji-san" can be pretty ambiguous, since it covers a wide spectrum of ages.
