Battle Trial

Class 1-A's Battle Trial is a combat training exercise that took place during All Might's first Foundational Hero Studies class.

Overview[]

All Might had Class 1-A participate in the Battle Trial during their first Foundational Hero Studies class. Class 1-A is permitted to use their Hero Costumes for the first time to participate in this event. 

All Might moved them two steps ahead of the urban battles they participated in during the Entrance Exams by training them for indoor battles. According to All Might, statistically speaking, most run-ins with the worst villains occur indoors. The Battle Trial's purpose was to prepare the students for this.

The students were paired up into ten teams of two and were pitted against each other in two on two matches, both teammates and the matchups were decided by drawing lots, to simulate how heroes don't always get to pick and choose the fellow heroes they work with. One pair would be the hero team and the other would play the villain role.

The backstory situation for the exercise is that a pair of villains are hiding a weapon payload (fake, of course) inside the building. The time limit for the mock battle is fifteen minutes. In order for the heroes to win, they must either capture both villains or secure the weapon before time runs out. In order for the villains to win, they either have to capture both heroes or protect the weapon until time runs out. All Might would intervene if the situation escalates too far.

Since the heroes don't know where in the building the bomb is located and have limited time, the heroes are at a disadvantage. This is part of the training, as heroes have to overcome such odds on a daily basis.

Prior to the start of the match, the villain team is given five minutes to find the weapon and set up their defenses, while the hero team is given a schematic of the building to study. Each participant is given a role of special tape with which to tie up their opponents. A student tied up in the tape is considered captured and therefore out of the game.

Each participant also has an earpiece so they can talk to their partner. All Might wears one as well, so he can talk to any of them.

The mock battles took place on Ground Beta inside the replica buildings while the rest of the class watched from a monitoring room.^[1] Every individual battle is critiqued by All Might and the students following its completion.^[2]
