—Cetrion to Jacqui Briggs in Mortal Kombat 11

Biography

  • Mortal Kombat 11: "Elder Goddess of Virtue, Guardian of Life. When Shinnok threatened to conquer the Elder Gods, Cetrion cast him into the Netherrealm. Her blessings answer the prayers of warriors battling against darkness. But at times, the heroic virtues she upholds are at odds with her quest for universal balance."

Storyline

The Elder Goddess Cetrion was born from the Titan, Kronika, who sired her out of her need for balance, with Cetrion representing life and nature while Shinnok represents death and sin. In ancient times, it was Cetrion who banished her brother Shinnok, from the Heavens when the corrupted Elder God attempted to conquer Earthrealm in defiance of his fellow gods. Cetrion became a symbol of virtue and justice among the Elder Gods, highly respected by mortal and demigod alike.

Mortal Kombat 11

Part 1: Mortal Kombat 11

Cetrion is first seen advising Raiden alongside her fellow Elder Gods about the time anomaly, informing him of their inability to stop her attempt at creating a New Era. At this point, she is in a blue ghostlike form that the Elder Gods often take. After defecting from the Elder Gods, she scolds Raiden about his attempts to stop her now-revealed mother. Cetrion returns to face Jacqui and a younger Jax Briggs on Shang Tsung’s Island Ruins in order to secure the soul crown for Kronika. She threatens to kill Jacqui unless she receives the crown, succeeding in acquiring it.

Cetrion returns a final time to face Fire God Liu Kang at Kronika’s Hourglass, and sacrifices her essence to her mother in order to give her more power.

Part 2: Aftermath

With Shang Tsung, Fujin, Nightwolf and Sindel on their way to the former's island, Kronika sent her immediately. Although she is successful in defeating Nightwolf, she herself is ultimately defeated by Sindel. Later, just before Kronika is confronted by Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn and Sindel in the final battle, Cetrion allowed Kronika to absorb her essence in an attempt to strengthen her mother and the remaining revenants so they could defend the Hourglass. However, the effort was in vain. After Shao Kahn and Sindel killed the revenants of Kung Lao, Kitana and Jade, Shang Tsung, whose power was enhanced by Kronika's crown, turned on his allies, absorbing their souls before going on to kill Kronika and fighting Liu Kang for the position of the new Keeper of Time.

Endings

  • Mortal Kombat 11 (Non-Canonical): "Though I denied their truth, eventually I realized the wisdom of Liu Kang's words. There is virtue greater than my mother's desired balance. Good must be allowed to flourish. But no matter how I reshaped time, rooting out evil proved impossible. Though freed from want, mortals still killed each other. Divided by realm and race, they easily justified their hate. Hubris, greed, envy. To appreciate my gifts, mortal sins must be cleansed. Which is why I baptize the realms with fire. For eons, mortals will battle evil, eventually achieving victory. And when they emerge from the darkness, they will be humbled. Eager to embrace the light."
