Following the divorce of her parents, Julia's mother was admitted into a psychiatric hospital in Los Angeles, forcing Julia to move in with her father, step-mother, and half-brother.^[1]

After being bullied, Julia learned taekwondo. Still alienated from her father's new family, Julia decided to runaway from home. At Grand Central Station, Julia encountered Cassie Webb, who tried to save her and Mattie Franklin and Anya Corazón from Ezekiel Sims. Teaming up, the quartet was able to defeat Sims together.^[1]
