King For a Day is the sixteenth issue of IDW Publishing's Godzilla comic series, Godzilla: Rulers of Earth; it was released on September 24, 2014.

Plot[]

Moments before they could deliver an injured Anguirus to a facility in Russia, the CKR team and Kiryu were shot out of the sky by two Mechagodzillas. The group, surviving their crash, immediately questions if Anguirus survived. But they have no time to think because they're ambushed by mysterious Russian soldiers. They are marched through the forrest, but are luckily rescued by Kiryu. While this is happening, the remaining Mechagodzilla units are returning to base. The Cryogs, Minnette, and Malorie discuss a plan to launch their newest monster to kill Godzilla. The psychic twins are strapped into a machine, ready to control the beast known as Mecha-King Ghidorah. Allie and Steven, in the dark on the situation, reuinite in the ruins of Godzilla's battle with the Mechagodzillas. Ignorant to Godzilla's struggle for his life against the Mechanized Ghidorah.

Godzilla struggles as he is shocked by both Ghidorah's claw and Gravity beams. This injures Godzilla heavily, but he manages to wiggle out of Ghidorah's grasp and falls onto the surface below. Ghidorah lands on top of Godzilla, stomping the Monster King into the floor. Ghidorah kicks Godzilla to the side, allowing 2 Mechagodzilla units to force Godzilla to his feet. The three mechanical beast all fire at Godzilla at once, causing Godzilla to scream in pain. Godzilla manages to retaliate with a flurry of melee attacks and shoves. But each time he seems to have the upper hand, Godzilla is knocked off balance by Mecha-King Ghidorah or a Mechagodzilla. Godzilla is thrown through a building, but it gives him a moment to fire his atomic breath. The physic twins begin having nosebleeds as Godzilla destroys the equipment that keeps them in control. Godzilla is once again surrounded by Ghidorah and the Mechagodzillas, but are distracted by a new kaiju entering the battle. Anguirus has arrived. Godzilla and Anguirus come up with a plan through nothing but a nod. While Anguirus battles the Mechagodzillas, Godzilla fights Ghidorah. With the extra help, Godzilla gets the upper hand on Ghidorah, bashing the Dragon across the chest with Anguirus. Ghidorah tries to restrain Godzilla again but grabs a Mechagodzilla instead. Ghidorah retreats, leaving Godzilla and Anguirus victorious.

  • The newspaper that Steven Woods is reading at the end of the issue has a headline that mentions a "space crystal research project," foreshadowing the return of SpaceGodzilla in the next issue.
