The Binoculars are a possible starting gift and lootable item in Dark Souls.

In-Game Description

Binoculars made of brass. Use to peer at distant scenery.
This advanced device was built by a famous craftsman of Astora. Its utility is singular, but its applications many.
The value of these specs depends greatly on the imagination of their owner.

Availability[]

  • Starting gift
  • Found on a corpse towards the end of the graveyard in Firelink Shrine.

General information[]

Using the binoculars allow players to peer at things more closely. The binoculars have a zoom option, accessible by pressing up on the D-pad on both the PS3 and Xbox or the arrow keys on PC. Its zoom capabilities are identical to that of bows and can be improved by the Hawk Ring.

Using the binoculars has some starting lag and leaves the player completely vulnerable (although the player can roll or jump out of using them), regulating binocular usage for non-combat.

It is impossible to pick up multiple pairs of binoculars. Attempting to do so will result in the pair on the ground disappearing.

Overview[]

Binoculars are not very useful, as bows have just as high of a magnification and also have offensive capabilities. It can, however, be used to aim and then fire with a crossbow or other ranged attack when locking on is not possible. They are a poor choice as a starting gift as other gifts are more useful and the binoculars can be obtained very early in the game.

Notes[]

  • Use of the Binoculars is the only way to get a view without the player character appearing on the screen.
