SunOpps by OneRoof Energy
- Present
I was brought on to the team at OneRoof Energy to create a simple, quick, and painless online experience for homeowners to take the first steps to to get solar on their roof. Homeowners can design a system and prequalify themselves as leads for our sales team. Updating this poriton of the process can potentially save all parties involved thousands of dollars on each home installation. The product is still in beta, but moving forward quickly.

“If there is no clear owner, then it’s the PM that owns it.” I sat down with Esteban Contreras from #ProductState to discuss Product leadership, or Prioritization process at Productboard. We also dug into the concept of Extreme Ownership, which is a principle I firmly believe in. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eVN47mWn #productmanagement #productexcellence #ownership

Most product trios don’t have a lot of experience with driving outcomes. They grew up in a world where they were told what to build. Or they were asked to generate outputs, with little thought for what impact those outputs had. So, when we shift from an output mindset to an outcome mindset, we have to relearn how to do our jobs. Normally I'm a huge, huge fan of John Cutler and his newsletter, which you *should* subscribe to if you want to learn how to be an effective dev or PM. However, his missive yesterday is off the mark. What he's observing is 100% a failure of leadership. People can blame the tools all they want, but if you're not creating a culture that supports these principles they go nowhere. https://lnkd.in/gdCg3-VR #PMI #softwaredevelopment #productmanagement #agile

Strategic alignment across product and field is complex and not easy to get right, but it's a pleasure to work alongside Brett Crane, Trevor Jett (Childers), and Jarod Greene. It's wonderful to be in conversation with them, sharing what we have learned, in this webinar: https://lnkd.in/gc-qp7Hk

I really enjoyed working with our team to put together The Pragmatic Guide to Composability, and I really appreciate the Forward by Brian Walker! We can all sometimes be guilty of using too much terminology and jargon. At the end of the day * every * enterprise brand is trying to achieve greater composability - making sure that all of their digital investments work together to serve their business and their customers. In this report we cover how composability isn't a new concept or a passing fad, we bust some myths that may hold brands back from building a strategy for greater composability, and we recommend starting points for brands that are setting out on the first steps toward composable commerce.

Nick is one of the greatest product coaches out there today. 💪 It was a delight getting to chat with him about his journey from product to coaching. He talks about some of the things we don't often hear in Product Management, mental health. His stories about the challenges he's overcome were inspiring and hope to have him on the show again to cover more! If you have any questions for Nick after listening to the episode, comment on this thread so I can bring him back on. 🙌 Product Coffee - productcoffeepodcast.com #productcoaching #productmanagement #transformation

📣 Product Folks: 😡 Have you and your team hit the wall with trying to focus on value? That *could* look like: ▶ No steady stream of data to inform strategy, prioritization + roadmaps ▶ Stakeholder misalignment ▶ Competing priorities ▶ Duplicative or overlapping work streams 🤓 Are you ready to put Product Operations into practice at your company? Such a great feature idea. Aha! is still crushing it -- they intimately understand the jobs-to-be-done for a PM. Can't tell you how many times I've had a need only to realize they've anticipated it and what I need had already been built / planned. #productmanagement #aha #software #meetings https://lnkd.in/e7T2UUY5

ENOUGH WITH THE FRAMEWORKS! If you've worked with me, you've probably heard me say that. Product teams should be focused on driving outcome and impact, not falling in love with the process. And that's something Peter Yang from Roblox knows all too well. We had a great conversation on Next Gen Builders about how the PM role is evolving, how to use #AI to focus on more important work (like talking to customers), and more. Tune in to our conversation: https://lnkd.in/dY-AZh2s

Great perspective and reminder on fundamentals of successful teams, thanks Sam Wettling, Keith Swiderski at Zilker Trail Consulting Disclaimer: Sam's been my "part therapist" since 2010 through guitar jam sessions 🎸🤘 Fifteen years into my career, I'm still astonished by how leaders in groups, big and small, are rowing in different 👈😕👉 directions despite best intentions. We're always missing out when product and marketing efforts are misaligned. Analytics, Partnerships, BizDev, Sales, CS, they're all part of the same unit from the customer's perspective. Just like a kid asking both parents and getting different answers 🤷♂️, customers can smell dissent a mile away as soon as more than one team engages with them. I particularly liked the simplicity of your GPS (goals, problems, solutions) workshop model and the safe space provided to openly discuss challenges. More often than acceptable, solutions don't solve problems that matter and problems being solved don't support the goals. Even more common in my experience is the absence of clear goals ⛳ Most companies I've engaged with or joined have needed a major upgrade in: 📐 Defining metrics that matter in their problem space (value vs. vanity) 📈 Setting and tracking goals that support desired outcomes (funding, profitability, growth, talent retention, ...) 📢 Communicating, evaluating and adapting to progress toward goals "Aren't we already aligned to our goals?" I often hear when asking the simplest questions. "No, seemingly not. Here's how it's manifesting... frustrated/overworked staff, mediocre NPS, limited internal and external feedback, the list of symptoms goes on. True leaders take the bull by the horns, roll up their sleeves and fight complacency in those situations. Then, you have a working team and system that can honestly achieve whatever they put their efforts to. Although, I suggest rolling up sleeves first 🐂🤕

Which type of PM should I hire? 🤔 I've seen the answer shift depending on the current skillsets of your team and the next must-do's for the company. As a leader, you want to achieve balance between those that are great at 0 to 1, especially in the AI Age, and those who know how to scale a product based on customer demand all whilst bringing the company along. One of the simplest frameworks I've seen for thinking through this is from Adam Fishman and Keya Patel at Reforge: https://lnkd.in/gV9Q-bsb They break things down into 4 archetypes: 1️⃣ Core Product Managers: The backbone of any product team, they mostly focus on feature work that directly addresses clearly articulated customer pain points. These PMs are seasoned at cross-functional collaboration and know how to iterate and ship. 2️⃣ Growth Product Managers: Vital for hitting hockey stick growth, they're the maestros of user acquisition, activation, and conversion. Their relentless focus on metrics-driven experimentation and optimization drives sustainable growth. Prior marketers make excellent Growth PMs. Check that these individuals know how to knock on doors to build relationships across multiple teams so that they can get their experiments out the door. Though they will have to step on some toes. 3️⃣ Platform Product Managers: The architects of internal growth, they scale essential platforms and services to automate the operating systems and lifeblood of the org. For AI companies, these individuals are key to helping you build scalable data labeling and training tooling. 4️⃣ Innovation Product Managers: These are the individuals that love a blank page. Founders thrive in this role because they get to play the disruptor, pushing boundaries, driving new R&D efforts, and forcing stable companies to rethink the status quo. I've seen these individuals thrive when it comes to introducing new product lines or taking on a product-led growth motion for the first time. Naturally, because the world isn't black and white you'll like find that team members represent 2-3 of these archetypes. Still, I always think about what I'm optimizing for most of all. What do you think? BS or worth trying? (and yes, I'm hiring — innovation + growth pm's reach out)
