News that Microsoft and Apple, two key partners of ChatGPT-maker OpenAI, will not have advisory roles on the company's board of directors is the latest example of the ongoing impact of the Biden Administration's antitrust enforcement agenda. Our colleague, Bilal Sayyed, anticipated this issue; read his original insights on "horizontal interlocks" here: https://bit.ly/3y1lo1N

We're grateful for -- and very proud of -- our colleagues, Phara Guberman and Ken Breen, for their more than three years of hard work on behalf of Kaiser's Room and the families and children the organization serves. While this latest news concludes one chapter, the story of this cherished nonprofit will continue with community support. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/g5JiZp8J.
Yesterday was the culmination of a more than three-year ordeal for our pro bono client, Kaiser's Room, when Philip Dallmann, its former Executive Director, was sentenced to 36 months incarceration for wire fraud and access device fraud after embezzling nearly all of Kaiser's Room's funds. Kaiser's Room is a small not-for-profit organization that provides inclusive arts programming for developmentally disabled children and adults. In the summer of 2021, I received a call asking for help from Kaiser's Room after its founder became aware of some irregular correspondence and strange charges on its debit card. Ken Breen and I then began an internal investigation that uncovered a years' long fraud and elaborate cover-up. With the help of Nicole Sliger CPA, CFE, CFF and her team at BDO (Daniel D'Agustino and Zach Thall), who provided the most thorough forensic accounting services pro bono, we presented our findings to Homeland Security Investigations. The case was ultimately charged by the Southern District of New York, with Mr. Dallmann pleading guilty. His plea was conditioned on his making full restitution, but that will certainly take many years. Regardless, because of this fraud, Kaiser's Room canceled cherished classes and upcoming performances for children of all developmental profiles, who were left with no place to dance or act and no explanation. We have since been working to rebuild. The organization is up and running with new corporate governance and controls.
