The best Sonic the Hedgehog video game to be released in years! Sonic Team has something really special here and can't wait to see what direction they take this series in the future. A must play for Sonic fans.

This game would have been much, much better if they kept it more action, platform oriented like the old school Sonic games. All the added exploration, finding certain objects, etc., takes away from the momentum and becomes dull and boring.

Sonic's core gameplay design that is speed has never felt more at home than with an open world format. The game is full of such truly epic moments while also being riddled with an abundance of questionable design decisions. Ultimately though, the highs outweigh the lows in this case to make for a memorable and worthwhile experience.

One of the most interesting sonic game since a good while. Really good feeling control and the game has a good length even while rushing things up. I would probably not recommend it at full price, but at a sale, it is a mustbuy even for the least interested sonic fan.

Meh. This game is simply meh. Sega is frustrating... they are so sloppy in making games it seems. In this case, Sonic runs faster than the world loads. Most of the side quests seem irrelevant and the shear number of things on the map in which I can collect, seemingly has no point other than it's on the map and therefore I should collect it. The challenges are mostly uninspiring and questionable. I give this a solid 5 out of 10. Its meh.

If you are a Sonic fan I highly recommend because of the traditional linear stage gameplay and the open world element. This game incorporates all of sonics classic abilities with enhanced combat styles and movement that is modern and exciting.

Let me cut to the chase. I was forged in the fires of early sonic platforming. It's bad. It feels terrible. It really does. I have gone back and played through older sonic games. Even the beloved ones. They at best feel hard to control, and at worst feel nightmarishly bad. Still, that sense of going fast? That's some good shit. Sonic, whether I like it or not, formed my love for playing games.
This leaves me with complicated but ultimately positive feeling about Frontiers. At the surface, "take breath of the wild but make it with sonic mechanics" sounds shallow, but they swing for the fences in ways sonic games have felt afraid to. At times, it feels on the edge of spinning apart. Capped at 60 fps on PC, mindless grind rails popping in and out as you speed way too fast across flattened landscapes. Then, you realize they kind of pulled it off. The grind rails are fast travel. The traversal, magnificently unhinged.
The whole game feels like this. On the verge of spinning out of control. Some of the platforming is, truly, as bad as it's ever been. Unwieldy in the worst ways. At its best, it's banging music, or oddly meditative, leaning into the pinball rhythm that Sonic Mania absolutely perfected.
It's disorganized, odd, and so exciting. Even the simple combat is oddly complicated, despite not being especially demanding. It's just - weird. And cool. The writing is terrible, the platforming feels infuriating at times, and it's a sick direction for this franchise. It has life and cool little design decisions sprinkled all around.
I'm going to beat this. Hell, maybe 100 percent it. It feels good for a long while, but eventually it speeds into monotony broken up by bad mini games.
I haven't liked a sonic game this much since Sonic Mania (a much better game). What I love about Frontiers, is that for all its trademark faults, it feels fun. It feels weird. It feels fresh. And it still feels like sonic.

Unleashed but worse. This isn't a game, despite being released and having a year of "updates" the game is still in a beta form with the lack of challenge and things to really do. Open zones- the selling point of the game are made pointless with another selling point, the Cyloop; why spend hours traveling a map for collectibles when you can run in a circle and generate progression items and upgrade seeds. Combat is very lacking with only a few combos and a lock on that doesn't work same for homing attack. The main bosses, the titans, are bland and boring just being more quick time events and cutscenes than actual fights. The combos are broken once you learn how to chain and stun lock enemies with just a three hit combo, fights become the same boring thing over and over never providing a real challenge. A later edition was expert mode, which is just as easy as well easy mode given the lack of challenge it already offers. Stages are just reused from old games with nothing added and S ranks can be obtained on the first playthrough as they are very easy to get, there's no challenge making a boring reward for being good. Lore added ruins what lore we already had, it doesn't add it destroys in the dumbest ways. If you've played Generations and Unleashed you've already played Frontiers.

IGN Review
Sonic Frontiers is an ambitious open-world adventure that mostly succeeds at mixing up the Sonic formula, even when some of its ideas fall flat.
