The President declared a major disaster for the May 21-27 severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, landslides and mudslides, making Individual Assistance and Public Assistance available for the designated counties in Kentucky. Below are some differences between these two programs.

Residents of Lincoln, Otero, Rio Arriba and San Juan counties and the Mescalero Apache Reservation, who applied for FEMA disaster assistance following the South Fork and Salt fires and flooding in New Mexico, should be aware that FEMA may call from unfamiliar area codes and phone numbers or show no caller ID.

FEMA Individual Assistance is available to renters, including students and homeowners in Baxter, Benton, Boone, Fulton, Greene, Madison, Marion and Randolph counties. FEMA may be able to help you pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other needs caused by the disaster, including rent, if you are displaced because of the severe storms of May 24-27.

Residents of Hancock, Kanawha, Marshall, Ohio, Roane, Wetzel, and Wood counties are eligible to apply for assistance from FEMA to help with costs from damage and losses caused by the April 11-12, 2024, storms. Residents are urged to apply by Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024. FEMA can help people get back on their feet by providing flexible, up-front funding immediately following a disaster.

Because of extended power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl, Texans who purchased or rented generators between July 5 and July 20, 2024, in designated counties may be eligible for assistance under FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program. FEMA waived a requirement that applicants show that generators were purchased or rented to power a medically required piece of equipment, and applicants will not have to submit a statement from a medical services provider indicating that the generator is needed to power medically necessary equipment.

As part of the disaster assistance process, FEMA must determine ownership and occupancy of damaged primary residences. There are several ways Floridians who were affected by the May 10 storms and tornadoes can provide this information.

If you applied for FEMA assistance, you will receive a letter in the mail or via email. The letter will explain your application status and how to respond. It is important to read the letter carefully because it will include the amount of any assistance FEMA may provide and information on the appropriate use of disaster assistance funds.

You may appeal any decision by FEMA regarding your application for Individual Assistance program. Sometimes all you need is to provide some additional information. Here are some tips to help you submit a successful appeal with FEMA.

FEMA is committed to helping all eligible Texas households recover from Hurricane Beryl, including U.S. citizens, non-U.S. citizen nationals and qualified non-citizens.

If you received two months of FEMA rental assistance after the Maui wildfires and need more time to plan your recovery, you may be eligible for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance. Under the Individuals and Households Program, if you provide the required documents, you may receive rental assistance for another three months and possibly longer, if needed.
