Asian stockmarkets rebounded after a massive global sell-off on Monday, led by a significant recovery in Japanese equities. Topix, Japan’s benchmark index, surged by 11% during early trading, recovering from a 12% plunge the previous day. Markets elsewhere in Asia also rallied. Investors were perhaps buoyed by the Federal Reserve’s reassurances that America’s economy was not in a recession after the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 indices suffered their sharpest declines in almost two years, falling by 2.6% and 3% respectively.

A federal judge in America awarded the Justice Department a victory over Google, ruling that the tech giant violated antitrust laws to dominate online search. The judge agreed that Google’s actions—paying billions to Apple and other companies to be the default search engine on their platforms—created a barrier to entry for competitors. The case is one of several big antitrust suits America’s government has launched.
