Roger, renowned as Roger the Reveler, was a duke of Toussaint via his marriage to Duchess Carolina Roberta.[N 1] He ruled by the end of the 12th century.[1]

Biography[]

In 1178, actors of the Seidhe Llygad Amphitheater rehearsed intensely because Roger, alongside his favorite Countess de Stay'cherr, was to attend. The première, however, ultimately didn't happen.[2]

The duke drunk wine in huge amounts, leading to a period during which he was constantly tipsy. In this state, he ordered outposts like Ussar Castle and Mont Crane Castle to be built as a defence against the "Mount Gorgon highlanders". The fact that no such folk threatened his subjects didn't bother him at all.[1]

Appearance and personality[]

Evident by his sobriquet, Duke Roger was a man who thoroughly enjoyed his Est Est and Sangreal. So much, in fact, that the tales of his drunken shenanigans entered the duchy's folklore. Monogamy wasn't to the duke's taste, either, as he had a public romance with Countess de Stay'cherr.[1]

Footnotes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 The succession through female line in the 13th century Toussaint is established by The Lady of the Lake. Moreover, the Blood and Wine expansion reveals the father of Duchess Caroberta – Ademarta's husband – was a Nilfgaardian princeling. Given the chronology, this leaves room only for Roger to be Caroberta's husband, as Caroberta is mentioned to be the ruling duchess in the year 1189.
