The Shadow Candle is a furniture item that can be placed or held to nullify the enemy spawn reduction and passive NPC spawning benefits of towns, allowing enemies to spawn more frequently. It grants players the Shadow Candle debuff. When placed, the debuff is applied to any players standing within a rectangular area of 169×125[1] (Desktop only) / 100×84 () tiles centered on the Shadow Candle. It emits a very small amount of light.

Notes[]

  • The Shadow Candle debuff icon will only display when the Shadow Candle is placed, however its effects are granted whether it is placed or held.
    • An item is considered as "held" if it is currently selected in the player's hotbar.
  • The Shadow Candle can be turned off and on by pressing  Interact. Shadow Candles that are turned off will not grant the Shadow Candle debuff.
  • Since the Skeleton Merchant is not a Town NPC, he is not affected by the Shadow Candle.
  • The Shadow Candle allows the Chaos Elemental, and the Enchanted Sword (NPC) to spawn without the player needing to move.
