Asphalt Block (demo)

Top speed being achieved on asphalt without speed-boosting accessories.

Asphalt Blocks are unique hardmode blocks, craftable after at least one mechanical boss has been defeated, that dramatically increase the speed of players running along them, along with reducing the time it takes to stop running. Their acceleration stacks with other speed-boosting items such as the Hermes Boots and its derivative accessories. It only affects players running directly on it – the speed of Enemies, NPCs and Critters will remain unaffected. Immediately after jumping or falling off of Asphalt Blocks, the speed will return to normal.

With no other boosts, running on asphalt has a max speed of 53 mph, with about 3 seconds of acceleration, while the normal maximum running speed is 15 mph or 18 mph PC version PC version, Console version Console version, Mobile version Mobile version, and tModLoader version tModLoader version.

Notes[]

Tips[]

  • This is a useful block type for building Skybridges, especially for the late-night collection of Fallen Stars, and is also good for Arenas, particularly where quick movement may be necessary (Skeletron Prime during its 'spin' attack, The Twins, Empress of Light, Duke Fishron, or Moon Lord).
  • This block only needs to be placed every other tile (with an empty tile between each) to achieve full speed. This means you can cover a particular distance at half the cost with the same effect.
  • On PC version PC version, Console version Console version, Mobile version Mobile version, and tModLoader version tModLoader version, Asphalt with Lightning Boots is slightly slower than a Skybridge made of rails with Minecarts except for the default wooden minecart and the digging molecart, which are slower than asphalt. However, by using a Panic Necklace and directing traps at yourself, minecarts can become almost obsolete as a form of transportation.
  • By using a maximum of 3 slime statues with a one second timer and positioning yourself with the leaf crystal from the Chlorophyte armor set bonus to be level with the statues, you can effectively afk to gather all of the gel you need, as it will take almost 9000 to cover a large world. Note that a Cobalt Shield or its upgrades should be used to negate possible knockback, ruining the setup. Similarly, flying minions should be utilized to take care of enemies other than the slimes. The gathering station could be constructed over the ocean to minimize interactions with wraiths or similar enemies. Also note that due to random events, afk-ing in Terraria is never fool-proof.
