Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is a 2016 action film written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Although the story outline was first conceived of in 2012, writing did not begin until 2014. During later drafts, significant changes were made which heavily altered the story to be much more in line with Anderson's 1998 action film, Soldier.

Plot[]

Continuing on from the ending to Retribution, the White House is holding despite the continuing attacks by mutants. After going to bed, Alice is awoken late in the night and finds her friends have disappeared. While searching the hallways, she stumbles onto an execution squad led by Chairman Wesker, who line up Becky, Jill, Leon, Ada and several other refugees and shoot them. Unarmed, outnumbered and feeling dizzy, Alice chooses to flee rather than fight, and succeeds in hijacking a V-22 Osprey.

Leaving Washington behind, Alice flies over to the abandoned Umbrella base in Nevada, where she meets with the White Queen, her only remaining ally left. During the meeting, Alice passes out from her dizziness, and is told soon after that Wesker deceived her when he injected her with T-virus - the viral load is too small to totally transform her, and she is sick because her immune system is fighting the infection. Furthermore, she discovers she was implanted with a tracking device - a contingency should she escape the White House. Alice then leaves the lab with an anti-virus, bound for the Red Queen's lair in Raccoon City.

The only other survivor of Arcadia, Claire Redfield has been incarcerated the ruins of Raccoon City, now under control of Umbrella. Released from her captivity by Dr. Isaacs, she meets-up with a group of refugees hiding from Umbrella, one of whom called "Doc". Heading into the Arklay Mountains, they stumble upon the Looking Glass House and make their way inside. Moving through its rooms, they find Umbrella's private subway which takes them down to The Hive which is fully operational and under the control of Red Queen. Alice arrives as Claire's team disable Red Queen, and soon after discover the mystery behind its reactivation in the form of an elderly woman who resembles Alice.

The unnamed woman, otherwise known as "old Alice", soon reveals the true nature of Umbrella and Alice's heritage. The original founder of Umbrella, Old Alice pioneered in human cloning and memory-implant technology alongside her son, Isaacs, in a quest to achieve immortality. By the 1990s the two and 48 others had donated their DNA for the project, allowing Umbrella to mass-produce clones to serve out various positions in the company from security guards to researchers. Angie, an early prototype based on Old Alice is born with a degenerative condition; rather than be euthanised, she is placed in the care of Dr. Charles Ashford and his memories are altered to see her as his natural daughter. His own attempts to cure her condition result in the development of T-virus, a revolutionary breakthrough in medicine. None of these breakthroughs have any success in the immortality project, however, and before long Old Alice loses control of the company to Chairman Wesker, who instead desires to militarise the T-virus, which he believes to be a far more profitable venture, and reassigns the project to a clone of Isaacs. Alice herself was then created as one of many identical Umbrella soldiers, and assigned to work at The Hive as its chief of security.

Alice is disturbed by the revelation of her origins, but is unable to kill her creator. The situation soon spirals out of control when Wesker makes his entrance, killing Old Alice with a gunshot to the head. Turning his attention to Alice herself, Wesker begins to overpower her with his superhuman abilities. Having discovered the existence of an airborne anti-virus. Claire and Doc head out in search for a delivery system, and return with a bazooka as Wesker beats Alice into the ground and dies from her wounds. Though severely wounded by the blast, Wesker cheats death by mutating into a powerful monster, but is bested by Claire and Doc, who work together to knock him over a cliff edge leading down to a deep chasm. Free for now, the two release the anti-virus into the atmosphere, and Undead around the world begin to die from exposure to it.
