Sudra is a minor antagonist in Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, making his only appearance in the climax of the episode "Skin Deep".

Appearance[]

When first revealed, Sudra is shown to be five electric spirit-like tornadoes of smoke, then taking shape into a pale brown-skinned, red-eyed man with a single insectoid head before four more sprout immediately afterwards. He's quite muscular and large, nearly double Liu Kang's height.

He has three finges on each hand and two on each foot, with red jewelry-adorned bracelets and anklets around his arms and legs which end on spikes at the elbows and calves.

Personality[]

Sudra doesn't have much in the way of personality, being depicted as quite brutish and animalistic, even beating his chest after believing Liu Kang has been defeated. He doesn't appear to possess the ability to speak, only letting out hissing and growling noises.

Biography[]

How Sudra came to be and why he's present in a temple guarded by Motaro and other Centaurians is a mystery. When Rain attempted to kidnap Kitana and destroy Liu Kang, he brought her and shackled her in Sudra's lair, likely luring Liu Kang there and expecting Sudra to beat him.

Mortal Kombat Defenders of the Realm Episode 4 - Skin Deep - Sudra's toxic fumes

Sudra spews out toxic fumes at Liu Kang.

Sudra initially presents himself to Liu Kang as five electric spirit-like tornadoes of smoke, emerging out of thin air before taking shape to battle Liu Kang.

He proves to be a challenging foe for Liu Kang in physical combat due to his tough hide and immense strength, as well as toxic fumes he can spew out of his five mouths, but one burst of Dragon Fire is enough to destroy his physical form and make the five spirits he's seemingly composed of to fly away in defeat.

Trivia[]

  • Sudra's name is only revealed in his concept art/model sheet and never mentioned in the episode proper.
  • His name is likely taken from Sudra/Shudra, one of the four varnas of the Hindu caste system and social order in ancient India. In some cases, Shudras participated in the coronation of kings, or were ministers and kings according to early Indian texts.
  • Sudra, being an insectoid warrior creature, far predates the more prominent Kytinn, or the earlier Kreeyans from Mortal Kombat: Conquest (which, like Defenders of the Realm, was also produced and distributed by New Line Cinema and Threshold Entertainment).
