The G.F.S. Anhur is an Anhur-class patrol ship that had been sent to Aether following a conflict that had ravaged the planet. Its task was to dismantle the abandoned Space Pirate mining facility in the Agon Wastes after Samus Aran and her doppelganger had effectively shut down their operations in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The Luminoth assisted the Federation, and it was here that they first discovered Phazon, from the ore that the Space Pirates had left behind. This Phazon led to the creation of the Phazon Enhancement Device.

It would appear that following the trend set by the G.F.S. Olympus means that the G.F.S. Anhur is the original Anhur-class patrol ship.

Logbook entry

GFDF AN-001
The first ship of its class, the Anhur, looks back on an illustrious career in the fleet of Federation. Her crew has transported Marines into 23 combat zones. Recently, the Anhur was sent to Aether to neutralize a Space Pirate base. Her sister ship, the Tyr, crashed on Aether due to atmospheric anomalies. This meant that Samus Aran was summoned, leading to the Aether Incident.

Etymology[]

In early Egyptian mythology, Anhur (also spelled Onuris, Onouris, An-Her, Anhuret, Han-Her, Inhert) was originally a foreign god of war, who started being worshipped in the Egyptian area of Abydos, and particularly in Thinis, during the 11th dynasty. Myths told that he had brought his wife, Menhit, who was his female counterpart, from Nubia, and his name reflects this—it means (one who) leads back the distant one.
