Notes
- While this series focuses on the origins of the X-Men, as some kind of prequel to X-Men #1, it rewrites and changes the original origin stories published in the 70s, suggesting this miniseries is set in an alternate reality similar to Earth-616. Divergences and differences that conflict with what seen in the original stories include:
- Hank McCoy, Scott Summers and Robert Drake attend the same school.
- Jack Winters doesn't have powers and he steals military secrets for money.
- Angel gets recruited by Professor X in Worthington's estate after the house has been set ablaze by fanatics. No gas gun incident. He's also outed as a mutant (although not publicly confirmed).
- Hank McCoy is outed as a mutant and discriminated in school until he goes hiding at home. No El Conquistador. Professor X has no need to make his parents forget anything.
- Robert Drake's arrest story doesn't occur.
- Magneto introduces himself to the Avenging Angel.
- The first Sentinel prototype is launched and successfully set after the Angel.
- Senator Kelly is mentioned at starting to campaign for President, in the days when Jean Grey is about to come to the school.
Trivia
- The issue's title refers to a quote from Virginia Woolf on "the great cathedral space that is childhood", obliquely continuing the pattern of each issue in the series having the word "child" in it.
